The Old English Razor

So I went to the Salvation Army only to find a few of these guys. Could anyone tell me anything about them? I know they were made in the 1830-1840 or that wouldn't say that on them. That's pretty much all I know. What would I have to look for to guess the price for these guys? I know the usual chip but specifically anything wrong with it only a person with the knowledge I don't have can tell me that lol.

"The Old English Razor" was quasi-exclusive marketing jargon of John Barber from about 1822-1835 or so. His razors, and the shameless copies of them, have the slogan stamped onto the side of the spine. That is, on the blade itself.

Much later the term became a generic slogan and many, many people used it. On the blade, on the scales, on the newspaper ads. Pretty much any place a brand could go. THOSE razors were made from about 1850 all the way to the early 1900's, and maybe a little beyond.

I can't make out the tang stamp on that razor, but the scales were made between 1850 and 1880 (IMO), and the razor too, most likely.

As for price, I've seen them sell for anything between $5 and $150. It all depends on who's selling and who's buying. That's one of the many excellent reasons valuations are verboten.

Other than that, there's not much more that can be said without better pictures.
