With all the talk about Gerstner tool boxes I just had to get the real deal
Vintage Gerstner Machinist 7 Drawer Tool Box Wood Oak Chest Restoration Project | eBay
I have reached the point of having enough straights, (15) to be exact. I would love to own a TI or a Mastro Livi, but the way it seems to me that if all of mine shave great, why order more? I still go back to my Boker King Cutter, Gotta, Morley, Red Imp, Gencos, Dovos and Wade Butcher and Thistle. The funny thing is that I always rotate back to my go-to Boker KC!
Thanks guys, it's going to take a little elbow grease to get it looking proper but I don't think to much. I will have to replace the felt but I can get that from the Gerstner sight and I'm thinking Red instead of the green felt. I think this one had the leather wrap on it that someone removed, I'll see when it gets here.

Coming in the mail sometime in the next week and a half is a Japanese straight razor, Parker Razor Co with Swedish Steel stamped on the tang. Coming from Japan. The shipping was more than the razor cost because it ended at an hour most people were asleep. Still a bargain as far as I'm concerned considering what I've read about the Parker razors. Yes, I'll post a picture when I get it.
Just won my first Robeson.

Should clean up well I hope and love the Spanish point? I think it's called.
Figure it's circa 1895-1900.
Funny, I have a Blade from a Toledo mfgr in the identical scales I think.
Experimenting a bit with a Japanese pull saw and some trimmings from new flooring that was installed so this will probably end up in new scales before I am done.
Cheers.
I love Robeson straights. Never seen one that old. Looks great.
Why do people insist on replacing perfectly good vintage scales on a VINTAGE razor with something new?
Thanks gents.
I'm excited to tune her up. I have a Shumate, and a few Genco's in my collection, but have heard good things about Robeson and frankly, fell in love with the profile of the blade.
Going to pick up a few more buffs for the wheel next week in anticipation..
Regarding re-pinning, while it doesn't show in the pictures, there is a nasty gash in the bakelite on the one side that i will probably not be able to buff out. I personally save all my old scales for resurrection.
Trying my hand at one piece scales, so assuming I don't botch things up to badly, may see what I an come up with design wise..
Cheers.
Wood Tool Chest w/ 8 Wood Tool Drawers. Harbor freight deal. It will suffice to contain my rad, sad and had ....for now..
For now indeed..
I started with two Tupperware bread containers, one for stones, one for everything else..
Now,, my own bathroom, took it all downstairs.. Vanity cupboard for soaps and scents, antique cabinet for racks of razors, under counter is my well and stones/hones, pasted boards. Strops on the wall. In the family room under the coffee table is my re pinning station and stone holders.
Basement is the lathe, buffing wheels, scroll saw and other power tools of destruction and redesign.. Hehe. Granted, some of that stuff in the basement was already in use, but everything else is all razor baby!! So yes,, for now indeed.
YMMV. :beer2:
I showed SWMBO the eBay auction, and she said, "Buy it! It's beautiful!" So what could I do except be an obedient husband?!
It's been shipped, and we're anxiously awaiting its arrival. It's a Stabil model 152, "Our Best", "Extra Qualität", (9/16"):
One thing about this razor has me confused: Although the box cites Germany as the country of origin, the razor doesn't; it's only inscribed with "Solingen". But it's clearly not terribly old; certainly not old enough to predate the trade agreement. How did they get around the labeling requirement? Is there an exception, perhaps, for non-export wares?
What I had in the mail which I now have is Wm Greaves & Sons straight.

The German didnt really apply to the trade agreement, they shipped razors all over the world, many with only Solingen, and many with Germany and unfortunately a boat load without any stampings on them at all.
