Default One Big Week in Dezember, two Auctions and many Razors

Wow, what a week before Christmas, i had Luck in two Auctions but wasnt sure what would come until i had all Razors lying on my Table and i can say it to you, it was really a good surprise

Of Course, i expected some nice american Razors, the De Pew and a big sheffield Razor but at the Auction Pics it wasnt clear visible if i bought junk or diamonds, no im lucks that most razors are more diamonds in my eyes instead of junk.

First is this one, a Just-Rite in 5/8", FHG from Boston:

Second a Witte in 11/16", wonderful Extra Hollow with a nice Belly:

Third a Geneva in 5/8", i believe this is some kind of standard model:

Fourth the DePew, a nice one although i had to fix the broken Scales, easy to sharpen but i couldnt shave with it, the feeling is so unusual and i dont know what to do with my fingers, for years i wished a few more mm on some razors tangs but now i have one with a lot of mm too much. Shaved with it four times and im considering if it will go or stay.

Fifth was the biggest surprise, i knew that i would get an old Sheffield Razor, but i didnt expected a Reynolds in 7/8"
Wedge, now i have a double of these Razor, the one that is shown and a Humpback Frameback in the same size

Sixth is a worn Carbo Magnetic, i allway wanted such a Razor but this will go further or later as i look for one in a better condition.

Seventh a Weck Shavette, as far as i can say a military one from the WW2 (or maybe later) US Navy.

Eight and Ninth, a Begonia (9/16") and a Kaufmann (5/8") from Solingen.

And Last but not Least, my Christmas Gift and Number Ten, a 47-11 in 11/16", FHG from the Castor Bros. New York, a very nice one and one of my favourites of these ten Razors.

Way to ring in the new year...........with some NEW - OLD steel. I like that little DePews monkey-tail , always was curious how the shave would be with one. Let me know if it decides to leave your collection.

The Geneva looks like possibly ivory scales but i could be wrong. The De Pew's are a totally different animal & you have to get used to using one to get the feel of them. If it isn't in your daily rotation where you can be used to using it, it will most likely sit around in your collection like mine has but it is a good shaver, just have to get used to it! I really love the Frederick Reynolds. I love Sheffield razors & I could never have enough Frederick Reynolds straights like that one! You never can go wrong with those type scales either. I won a small lot of about ten sets of scales & about three sets were ones like that & I have plenty of blades that will match up with then, one being a Frederick Reynolds blade! There are few Sheffield makers that used that type of scale.
What a good thing you have there, a nice collection of razors to add to the collection including your last & favorite of the ten.

Those are really nice catches! That Shavette could make a nice travel shaver. I especially like the scales on the Sheffield. Let us know if you decide to part ways with the any of them!

    Thank you all!! :-)

@Engine: The Thing with the Ivory Scales, this is exactly what i thought first when i saw in the Auction, the Pins and the Color, but theyre made of celluloid, but the best Ivory Immitation is saw before :-)
Will work to get used to the DePew, the Steel is very fine and the sharpness adorable, i guess its only the was how to hold it in the hands and how to act in the face with it thats making me problems but i have time and the razor is good conserved, im sure that i will be succesfull sometime.
I agree with your opinion with the Sheffield Straights, especially with the Reynolds, have/had four different models of them (sold two because i was too stupid to shave with them and too impatient to wait until i got used too with them) and they were more than nice. Im sure thats its invisible but i had a lot work with the Scales, they had been dry as paper and the cracks that are visible on the surface had been very deep, i filled some of them with acrylat, grinded the surface and oiled alot, at least i gave them some time under the polish wheel. Of Course, there are better results possible but i like the old look and only want to preserve the Razor and its scales respectivly restaurate it.

@tseppish: The Shavette is very nice & heavy, theyre often avaible for cheap prices but theyre good shavers (if the right blades are used) :-)

I like that, trying to keep them in as original shape is the best to me but if it isn't possible then another set of similar scales or some you can make is the next option.

Nice finds! I have a Kaufmann shoulderless blade that is just great. In hope they all work for you.

@Engine46: Thats exactly the way i see it too :-)
But its so hard to get good vintage replacement scales, Solingen Scales are more or less good avaible 60km away from Solingen but to get old Sheffield or American Scales is more complicated.
