Pocket groom kit from local antique store

Stumbled across this over the weekend. It's a bit of a mutt but seemed handy.

Mostly no brand markings. Razor is made in West Germany, case made in Austria (no idea what "ground leather" is?). Nail file made in Germany.

I think the razor is missing some sort of extension to make a longer handle.

Question for the experts, does this razor look promising enough I should order some blades and try it out? I've never tried DE before, but been curious to give it a try, and would be great for travel.

Very cool piece.

Some of the travel razors had very short handles. You can certainly give it a try, if it seems too aggressive stop. Not all of the razors had novice shavers in mind when they were made. So try your cheeks and if it feels good move on.

Well the handle is hollow and has what appears to be a plastic bushing inside which indicated to me it was missing a section, but it is compact which is nice. If it works out I thought it would be a bit more convenient for travel than a straight, and a better shave than a disposable.

What are some good blades to start with?

Astras are middle of thead/popular and easy to find. Or Dollar General blades are ok for a try.

where would I find the Astras?
