Easy way to make sure it's the last one? Use my mailing address for all future wins. I won't tell . . .
Who are you kidding. There I s always room for one more! Nice razor.
A 14 in carbon steel. They are not that easy to find. I am waiting on mine to arrive. Hopefully all is well. My favorite brand. That one looks to be in really nice shape. They do take a rather nice edge. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. It is very nice. I hope you got a stellar deal.
As hard as they are to come by I think I did ok. I have this one and a round point another square point and a platinum square point and i'm waitng on the Henckel 17 13/16 all are carbon steel. I have the 14 and the 17 in the mail right now and the little 4/8 from japan I really think that's all my nerves can handle.
Really like the look of the razor. A good razor.
The modern 17's are very similar to the 14 in size and shape but the grind is much closer to a half hollow than a full hollow. I picked up my 14 in the mail today. It is in nice shape but not NOS but it is very close to it as it only has a whisper of hone wear on it still just a smudge over 15/16 and completely even. I am sure with that many in your collection you are well aware of the great edge the will take and allegedly will go forever between touch ups.
Yeah right, last one my ass! I've said that before but RAD kicks in..........................
RAD is BAD & like Bruno once told me, it's SAD!
Well here I am waiting again. I won this razor off the bay on the 12 and it still not on it's way. I really can't complain the seller said that they only ship 1 to 2 times a week and I understand that but you know it really doesn't make the wait any easier. Like Christmas eve and I can't wait till morning. Ya know.
Well I received the Henckels 14 today and it's beautiful. This razor needs nothing but a honing and using. I do believe it is closer to 8/8 than 15/16 though. This may be one that I look at and not use. I really don't know if my face is large enough for it. Anyway now all I have to wait on is the 89 1/2 henckel I won today. I think the wife is going to shoot the computer.
If you have not shaved with a 14 before you should. As far as I am concerned this one is the creme de la creme of the razors although the 17 maybe hit half a note above it or perhaps half a note below it depending on my mood.
"last one"? I think you maybe need to go wash your keyboard out with soap. We don't use language like that around here.
I still haven't honed and shaved with the 14 yet. still debating on whether to hone or not. but I did hone the 17 I got a week or two ago and did shave with it last night. The 17 did a great job. the scales are a little loose but being as old as it is I don't think I will try to tighten them. they don't give any trouble while shave. the razor handles nicely and the size of the razor didn't give any trouble at all. it measures out to be 7/8. The 14 measures out at 8/8 and i'm wondering if that's going to give any problem. so far 7/8 is as large as I've used. so far I've used 6/8 square and round point henckels and platinum henckel that is 11/16 and this 7/8. i'm still waiting on the 4/8 henckel from Russia. I think the next one I look for will be a 5/8 so i'll have one in different sizes.
For my preferences as long as the scales are firm while stropping it is all that really matters. Loose scales while stropping is my pet peeve. I would tighten them up. The 17 is pretty spectacular of a find, and I suspect that once tuned on the hone it will be an amazing shaver. The 14 is not likely to give you any issues honing or shaving, although it is a prime candidate to send out to become your next benchmark. There are a few guys around that I have always wanted to check out their edges, I'm sure you have a similar list. Just a thought. I think that you are lacking more than just a 5/8 in your collection.
I started out like many and went for quantity not necessarily quality. In the last few months I've decided to go for quality . The Tuckmars and Henckels made the decision for me. they are superb shavers. I still love my wade and butchers and wosty's just that I have found that the solingens do quite well also, a friend convinced me of that when he sent me a 6/8 boker. I recently had a chance to hone and shave with a Dorko. That also is very nice shaving razor. Just go's to show ya that no matter how old you get you can still learn.
That's the beauty of this forum. you get to read and when needed ask questions get answers from folks that have been there done that and bought the T shirt. You get learn from there experiences so you don't make the same mistakes they did or someone they knew did. passing the knowledge along. I was 63 when I found this site and whish I had found it sooner. I've learned a lot and continue to learn, at times I've laughed until I almost cryed. didn't know you could have this much fun with a #$%^##&&**Computer. All in All a good bunch of folks.
Keep the love goin'..................that's all I can say! And learn something new everyday. I used to work with a guy that thought he knew everything & he even went around telling others that he was the best but his work kept coming back & biting him in the ass. They always gave his come backs to me because they knew I would diagnose the problem & fix it right the first time. I'm not trying to brag either, it's just the way I am. I learn something everyday & I don't go around acting like I know it all or tell others I'm the best because I know I'm NOT the best but all I can do is the best I possibly can!
That's all we can do is the best we possibly can & share what knowledge we have & take in any we don't have.:tu
I was sitting around the house today and remembered the 14 still was not honed. Thought about for a while and got it out of the safe. Honed it and it took an edge very good. I also got out the 17 just in case the 14 wasn't as sharp as I wanted. the 17 wasn't needed. Your right the 14 is the crème de la crème of all my razors. really there's nothing left to say about it. I also got out the Henckel 98 1/2 round point 4/8. I was just about to put it to the hone and got to thinking. I really don't believe this particular razor has ever been on a hone other that the factory. I'm going to see a friend in the next few days and he can tell me one way or the other if it true. I know that he collects Henckels and if this is one he doesn't have and want's it then he'll have it.
That was me right? I collect them & I can tell you if it has touched a hone or not. I don't want to hear that this is the last one either! Two thousand razor's down the road, you'll still be saying it.......................
Who are you trying to fool other than yourself???? I'm funning' ya my friend!
