My first fixed-blade Straight!

*EDIT* Fixed-blade as opposed to a Shavette style razor.

First off, my full kit. My father sent me the bowl and brush set for Christmas, a Van der Hagen kit from Wal-Mart. That's what kicked off my interest in a more classical approach to shaving. I can testify of closer, cleaner shaves with this style of lather alone, regardless of blade type.

Next up, the pictures of my new blade. A Kropp blade, 5/8 at the toe, 9/16 at the heel, full hollow, courtesy of Cory Schmidt. I haven't gotten to test it yet, as I had just finished shaving when it arrived in the mail. I'll report back soon!

All in all, I am very happy with my set. I'm still waiting for my strop and hone to get in, and apparently I'll need a higher-grit stone to properly care for the blade.

I am more than happy to take suggestions on equipment upgrades, so long as they're within a reasonable budget!

Where's the fixed blade , I can't find it in the picture, I must need better glasses.

Fixed as opposed to shavette style.

A fixed blade commonly refers to one of this style, Nuker! Nice Kit!

Nice kit, just take it slow and remember your prep time and don't get dissatisfied with a few few nicks. After a bit you will look so to shaving and how relaxing it really is. Good luck.
