It's a small box, containing a little bit of brownish powder... So your guess is welcome !

Usually the box contains iron oxide for the paddle strop

Nice haul, I see one item was from Liverpool originally, I used to work at 38-46 church st, Liverpool about 20 years ago but that place was well before my time.

Nice razors. Did you get them as a lot or just go on a razor buying spree?

I hope you can save the collars on that Johnson with the broken scales, they are very nice. That case is really nice as well.
I'm hoping I can get a ivory scaled razor sometime this year. I love the look of ivory.

Thanks ! I bought 4 razors in one lot, the Boker was a trade, the Malingre was bought alone, and the wooden box and its insides were another lot too.

I love the Boker with the wood covered tang. I love the box too, it looks almost like it is Wilkinson Sword.

No it's faux-tortoise

And I'm not sure it's Petty, as the barrel is not identical, this one has a faucet on it...

Yep, that is correct Tom. You knew it................the Petty brand.

Chawing, you might be able to use CA to put those Ivory scales back together & sand them back down carefully w/o unpinning. If you unpinned them, they would more than likely brake again pinning them back. That way it would still be original or find another razor with a junk blade with Ivory scales.

What you have there is a pair of Daniel Peres scissors, from Solingen (it seems to be an older pair, too), no doubt about it:

Daniel Peres was a pivotal character in the history of razor making in Solingen himself. In 1792, he opened his business in Solingen, manufacturing pen-knives. This because it was still impossible to start making cutlery outside of the established guilds, but no one in Solingen was making pen-knives at the time, so it was possible to get a permit and rent a small water mill. He also made his own version of the so-called "black polish" and introduced it to Solingen (originally invented by Robert Hinchcliffe in 1760).

The Daniel Peres firm stayed active until the 1970's, when it was bought out by K.R. Witte GmbH (in the 1970's) and was fused into that company in 1997/98 (K.R. Witte's history). Nowadays they still produce scissors under the Daniel Peres "Barrel" trademark.

I have two Peres razors, and when I recently saw the scissors at a second hand store for €1,50 I had a good chuckle. And a new pair of scissors. Well made, probably 1980's or so; my parents still have one of those, also Solingen made. So that was cheap nostalgia, in a good way. It's the little things.

Yes, very nice razors & great shavers, very prolific scissor manufacture of high end scissors, think they are still using the brand on scissors, without the barrel mark.
