As I am new to straight razors and antiques am looking for a little help on this one. I recently came across five razors in my Grandparents basement and this is one of them.
All I can make out is the name Newcastle. Most likely around 1700's.
This kind of scale (stright form) is typical for razor about 1800( i don't know for 700) ...
Don't know but it sure looks pretty old!

With that pronounced of a heel I would find it likely to be later, 1820 ish. With perhaps some homemade replacement scales or donor scales. I would like to know more. None of my few information sources have netted me anything.
Those scales are likely original. This razor has a shape and lack of tail typical of French razors from the first half of the 19th century. The NewCastle stamp I believe was on a number of double (papillon) razors, which were suspected made by French prisoners.
If it is French in origin the typical 'rules' for dating razors of English origin don't transfer very well.
