Wade & Butcher from Rockler

So I go into Rockler kinda often.... :p
Anyways I was talking to the one counter guy and letting him know how I like to use straight razors.
He says "I have one that was in my garage that I found on the rafters. I will bring it into you/"
Fast forward about 1 yr..... and he brought it in today....

Here is what I got:

A BIT rough...
Let's see what I can do with it....................

Just a tad bit rough.

Lots of potential there! You can actually see a nice, like new shine behind a lot of that rust.

Be gentle kind sir, you could have a real treasure hiding under there. :gl:
The scales are toast tho!

Looks like it should clean up nicely - any etching on the blade face?

So the edge is pitted up pretty bad.
I will do with it what I can.
My hands hurt from sanding....... :cry:

Yeh a light grind, some neetsfoot oil and horn dust in glue all combined with your skills, it should come up awesome as per all your works
Look forward to seeing the hidden gem

A little oil and chalk rubbed on there might clean it up.

Back when I was young and poor. I had some chisels that need some stropping and polishing. I had a old leather belt. I used the rough side of the hide and put a little oil and chalk and stropped the chisel on it and it polished it up nice. Just chalk board chalk is all I used and 3 and 1 oil I believe. My gunsmith friend asked me how I thought of this . I don't know just seen it there and tried. use a little oil not a whole lot.

Will be interesting to see how this one turns out. Will be cool to see if you can save the scales.

Oh man, you got your work cut out for you. Not sure I would waste my time on a blade in that condition, but I've seen you do amazing things with blades so it's in the right hands. Don't be afraid to walk away from this one. There's other blades that need your help. :) This sucker needs a blood transfusion, some new organs, and a lot of pain medication....

You've all got it wrong, that blade has a classic suede finish.

Not to happy with the scales on this one.
I had to shorten them and it kinda messed up the "look"

I did the best I could with sanding.
My hands need a break for a couple days now I think..........

I can see the shortened wedge end but the over all finish is excellent.

I can't believe that is the same razor.

That is unbelievable what you did with it. I think you did a fine job, don't sell yourself short.

Excellent recovery! The pitting on such an old blade is a shame. You did a masterful job of putting her back to use.

It was the original wedge.

Great save my friend. That turned out very nice. I have had to do that with scales too so I know how that goes. You know you can live with 'em for now but can always swap 'em out in the future if you want.
