I really don't know what it will turn out like but it looks like it's within my capability to play with. the spots of rust don't look deep just surface or at least i hope so. The scales look good .no cracks. the blade has a small nick in the edge but i believe it will hone out ok. If nothing else it will give me a good coffin for the last joseph rodgers i was able to win and i can always use good scales. I don't know what size it is it looks like a 5/8 but want know until i can measure it.

I was watching that one. I'd say you got it for a very fair price. The blade should clean up okay but it's hard to tell how deep the etching is in the other pics. The ivory scales are what caught my eye.

Nice ivories. I use Mother's mag polish on my ivory scales, it may seem odd but it really brings out the depth of them.

I received this one today and looks are deceiving some times. The chip in the edge was very small and the rust spots were just on the surface and came off with little to no effort at all. the scales are perfect and they are Ivory. the problem is the spine was a little warped. I looked at it very closely and decided to leave the tape off and hone to correct the problem but it still came out not looking so great or at least to me it doesn't look great. After honing i stropped and cked with a hanging hair and it cut it good so i wait until i shave to ck that. It wasn't a complete loss because of the scales and the coffin. If nothing else it would be one to look at. you know put it in one of those glass front wooden boxes with a cheap brush and cake of soap. I think i will keep away from small blades. this one is 5/8 hollow grind. Here lately i've gotten 2 or 3 with this same problem.

You should understand that the same guy who ground the tang was likely not the same one who ground the blade.
These inconsistencies are common with Sheffield blades from the old days, esp the lesser expensive ones which may likely have had some 'home work' done outside the factory or by apprentices.
As long as the blade is ground properly, should make no difference which way the tang leans as far as shaving goes.
Honewear excluded, of course!

The tang was ok but the blade it's self was a little off. You can see it in the edge. I honed it with out tape to remove the chip and to even the spine out some. i got it honed but the edge is uneven. I shaved with it tonight and it shaves ok just looks a little off. The shave was not as smooth as the larger heaver blades but was comfortable enough and close enough. Then again i didn't expect it to do as well as the 6/8 near wedges or wedges . The scales do look nice though.

Mis under stood. it's a hollow grind. I wish it was a wedge.
