How do I treat RAD in its early stages?

My wife loves junkin' at antique/flea market type things, I usually try to pass most of them like it saw them too late.

This time however as I went around the state returning home, the long way because of a meeting, I searched for some shaving items.

I picked up a razor and a few bottles. The big bottle I put some witch hazel in, the bay rum bottle I am going to get some bay rum and the dandruff bottle I picked up for the lid the big one was missing. No Pinuad bottles to be found....

I want to eventually learn to hone and thought this razor might be a good one to play on, of course I will need rocks at some point. I paid 18 for the razor and 12 for the bottles not counting tax which was probably too much but shaving stuff seems hard to come by and most blades were a disaster. One blade I opened had a chunk out I handed it back and the lady kept trying to make a deal.

So is this one good for my purposes and what should be done with it?

I believe the best treatment for RAD is focusing on the problem. Get a bigger cabinet, or move your shave gear to the spare bathroom. Catalog your gear, so you know what you don't have. Take photos, keep em in your phone so when you encounter another razor just like one you own, you can tell if the new one is in better condition.

My wife likes junk shops and is actually enabling me at this point....I'm doomed....

There is no treatment for RAD,,, you just replace it with another disorder,,, HAD, BAD, PBD,,,,,:shrug:

RAD is a blessing compared to HAD. Don't start looking at jnats...

Yea I said that when I got a Nani 12k. Then several coticules, an escher, a gokumyo 20k, several jnats, and now I'm looking at a holy grail jnat. Then there's brushes, don't look at morris & forndran.

Buy more razor racks, that's what I did! That's a good looking blade you got there, but you will have to unpin it to clean it correctly. (And maybe think about new scales)
Going back to your RAD, since your wife like to antique you are doomed but she will take some of the responsibility hopefully:)

As for RAD, it is different for all of us. I have had a good time cleaning and polishing all the razor I have gotten over time. The one you have seems like a good project to me. It needs to be unpinned and cleaned and then reassembled so you can then hone it. It looks to be in pretty decent shape with out the crazy hone wear. It does have some hone wear but it looks fairly even. Eventually I came to a point here I stopped looking at them very often, but it took me quite a few razors to get there.
