You don't find them like this everyday

I think this is about as near NOS as you can get considering it's age. A post 1890 Christopher Johnson & Co. 6/8 near wedge. To me it appears to have never been honed other than at the factory. Just a plain Jane blade but the condition is outstanding. The blade faces are mint and just a few spots of corrosion on the spine which will be easy to remove. Crocus finish blade faces and glaze finish tang and spine. There will be no need to disassemble the razor. The honey horn scales have just a few spot of delamination. The wedge is lead. Not many Chris Johnson razors posted. George Johnson & Co. seem to be more common.

That is insanely good condition. Was it found vacuum packed in a glass jar with a desiccant pack? Congratulations!

Lovely razor. The Johnsons I've found in this country were in decidedly poorer condition. Enjoy the shave. I echo Oldnick's comment about the glass jar and desiccant!

It was an eBay find. It came dry as a bone. It was in a mismatched coffin marked C. H. Mort Newark-on-Trent which was also in excellent condition.

Insanely good condition, like it just came from the factory. Even the scales look great! I love honey horn where you can see the blade sitting between them when closed.

In 1841 Christopher Johnson was enumerated in the census as a merchant living in Devonshire St. His trade mark was a flag inclosing his initials C.J. In 1854 he was based in Western Works, Howard St. with an outlet in Hatton Garden, London. In 1859 he relocated to Portobello St. which remained the center of the firms operation until the 20th century. By 1868 his nephew John Hibbert had joined the firm and another partner John Marshall and the title '& Co.' was added. Christ. Johnson died in 1881 and the firm was taken over by Marshall and Hibbert. Hibbert retired in 1886 leaving Marshall to run the firm. Marshall died in 1915 the firm by then being run my Marshall's brother-in-law. In 1955 Western Works was bought by Wostenholm and Johnson's factory was closed.
