Barbers bottle

I started using Witch hazel a few years back at the suggestion of Wolfpack. I found it very pleasing as it does not sting nearly as much as after shave and it saves me a ton of money. Mainly because I like using cologne because it lasts longer, puts the scent on your body not just your face. Then you have to use the matching after shave to go with it. Anyway, I went looking at bottles on the bay and watched a matching pair of milk glass bottle go by for 56 bucks. Now I thought then I would be nuts to spend that much on a bottle for 5 dollar after shave and so let it go. After looking at these things for a couple of years I still kick myself for not getting them. Watch the prices and you'll see what I mean. Chipped and missing spouts bottles go for the price of those 2 I saw.
About a month or so ago these filigree bottles started showing up. Now you can find tons of these for perfume but the barbers bottles I never seen before. Once again the initial offerings were way out of my mindset as far as price goes. Low and behold the deal of the century closed bidding and to my surprise the watch bid I put on it won. SHOCK.

It has a couple of wires separated from the edge which I pushed under and will have to solder at some point after really cleaning it up. I may even try to create one of these someday in the next century if I get my list of things to do done and I am still alive :<0)

This will go into daily use soon. I don't think it's going to look too bad sitting on the counter. The plastic CVS witch hazel bottle is under the sink now and a pain in the butt having to get it for a splash every morning.

How does it open? Not a screw top I imagine.

My witch hazel is just in a 50's or 60's glass Walgreens bottle I found at an estate sale.

That looks like Marie Laveau's potion bottle,,,:rofl2:

There is no cap for the top and I have never seen one of these long necks with one. I do need to find my boxes of "o" rings.

Once the Head Honchos at the C. H. Ina Company sees that there is an interest in them. Probably $1.99 each with free shipping. :w

I am sure it would take nothing but time and patience to make 1 and if I didn't have so many projects in the fire now I would be looking for a cool bottle.

I did a search on ebay for barbers bottles and scrolled around.
There are a couple more of this green and silver bottles.
One was square shaped and slightly more silver work on it.
Some of the others bottles were outrageously buy it now priced.

10Pups, I was actually watching that one & I missed it plus I'm glad I didn't snipe it since you got it. Great score! I did however get one similar, maybe made by the same company or close which had a BIN or best offer, so I made an offer I figured would be refused but about a day later, I got a message saying offer accepted!!! The long stem part unscrews the same exact way. I also got an amethyst bottle that was very cheap compared to others I've seen go for over $100, when I got the amethyst bottle for a very cheap BIN price so I looked at the others that are so expensive & came back to the one I got & hit BIN because they were identical. I think shipping was more than the bottle. It also have a sterling silver stopper in it.

I have never seen this type of bottle in any old catalogs, barber shop photos or in my barber bottle reference books. Could it be they are European or men's dresser bottles and not American barber bottles?

Looks like a hookah/shisha bottle...

Cool bottle Pups, i think these are called Campomar bottle after the company that makes these,from Spain,for perfume etc. The long stem one like yours would be for barbers hair tonic.

Martin, I just looked on the bottom of mine & there was a paper tag stuck to it. I peeled it off, cleaned the adhesive & it says "Karl Moran, Paris" on it so Pups bottle might be the same.

Nice bottles 10pups and engine46. Now you have started BAD (bottle acquisition disorder). Nice pick ups.

I know you guys are pretty handy with things But, if you ever have some silver soldering that needs to be done in part repair or full on bottle build, let me know as I do precision soldering and welding, will always answer questions if you just need a little advice.

Okay, you jogged my memory on the stopper thing. I have seen them before.
My bottle has a plate covering the bottom of it. will pop a pic in place of yours later.

I looked at a lot of bottles over the past few years and really can't tell if it's really a barbers bottle or not. Doesn't matter much to me, it is now :<0)

Buddy you could seriously start something here. I was already looking at pewter wire which seems cheap enough but the dang solder for it was like 30+ a roll. Yikes. I'm sure it would last long but for an experiment it is a little much of an outlay for me. Plus there is still the time and list of things I already have to do. Like make a stopper for mine now. Dang Engine46 :<0)

It's a crazy world Pups. When i'm on eBay sometimes the craziest things jump out at me, cool things though, just from doing different searches. It's too bad they don't have their wildcard anymore which was an asterisk used in a search! All kinds of stuff would come up but they stopped that. I don't know why, it was really cool!!!

These are part of my bottle collection. I got interested in the clam broth bottles because they were popular when my grandfather was barbering in Caribou, Maine in the 1920's. The Witch Hazel and Bay Rum bottles get used daily. Dominica Bay Rum is one of my favorites. The shaving paper waste jar has a lid which is rare to find and also the shaving cream jar with lid is not easy to come by. The small jar is a talcum shaker.
The colored bottles are made by N. Wapner of N.Y. and date to the end of the 19th century. The clear bottle is rare. They also made one in milk glass that I have only seen once. It would be nice to find one to complete the set. The Carl Monkhouse scissors in the picture belonged to my grandfather.

That is a cool collection of bottles. In my watching I have noticed a lot of these bottle sets are mix and match. I know it's hard to get a set of anything that actually looks like a set. The ones that crack me up are sold with whiskey bottle type pour spouts. I mean it looks like the seller just said okay get one of those out of the bar and pop it on there, then it will sell :<0)

The 3 clam broth bottles came as a set. The other pieces I picked up separately.
