Recent finds - Newbie
Hi All,
Here are a few things I picked up in a shop this past weekend. Very new to this, so pardon some of my ignorance. These seemed like they were in decent shape, inexpensive, salvageable. I know what to look for in a vintage kitchen knife, not so much with razors yet. So, I'd appreciate any feedback.
new rabbit hole? :gaah:
Torrey's (4 sided?) strop. feels like 2 (different color) soft leather sides and 2 "other, thin leather?" sides. not sure. 2 strops - 2 hones maybe?

this older Boker seemed like it was in pretty good shape...

Stellar Boker! You got a nice one.
The, I Like It, reminds me a lot of Sharptonns, Atta Boy, razor. Very cool!

No hone wear or rust on that boker and scales look good. The ilikeit is proooobably good, never heard of it, but neat. If that strop is what I think it is, with more pictures of the wear on it, it should be very good. Will try to find the thread where people fixed them up to give you an idea. It should be 2 hones, 2 strops. I think one is a coticule? Good job overall.

Nice finds. Both of those razor look like all they need are a quick polish and a hone. The strop might be four sides of leather with different grades of pastes on them (one being plain leather). Need closer pics to have a better guess. Good score!

Based off of the pics I'm pretty sure it is just leather that is mounted a bit differently. Still a neat item :)

Very nice find. Good eye for a beginner. I think you will like the Boker they are quality razors. Good luck and welcome.

Do you guys think that the strop is usable with a bit of work, or is it not worth it? I dig old sharp steel things because they can still be put to good use (in some cases better use than contemporary tools. preaching to the choir i know). But maybe this strop stays as a cool piece of history? I don't have much knowledge of leather or reconditioning leather...

There's a good amount of information on restoring old strops. I haven't seen one reconditioned when cracked/wrinkled like in the very last picture. Don't see why the other three wouldn't work, but I've never restored leather...
