Flea market project finds
Found a number of project blades at the flea market. Just what I needed, more projects, but I'm not complaining. All are wedges, and all will need a lot of work, some more than others. The W&B with the chipped heel already has a Sharpie mark delineating the minimum angle for repair. The steel on that one is pretty pristine other than the chip. The top one with the notch is not too shabby either, but all have broken scales. The bottom blade is a William Jackson Sheaf Island Works with bone scales that the only damage to is pictured. The steel is in better shape than it appears in this photo.
I was wearing a W&B tee shirt, and even though most folks don't know what it is, it still gives me pause to wear it to a market. I think that a savvy dealer might up his prices (if they aren't already marked) in the presence of an obvious collector. In this case, it scored the W. Jackson. The dealer asked if I was looking for razors and I quipped, "how did you guess?" He had forgotten to set his out, and there was the Jackson when he got them out. He also said he had a couple of W&Bs at home that he would bring me next time. His verbal price was just fine.......$18.
