6/8 Wade & Butcher
Just picked this one up on the Bay for $13.00. Had a small crack near the heel which I knew of. Carefully silver soldered without overheating the blade. Honed up great. Will take it for a shave in the morning.

Good luck. Hope it holds. I bet it tough to get the silver into the crack to bond it. Guessing. Or do you grind a notch and fill?

Actually when you use a propane torch the solder is drawn towards the heat. I placed flux over the area and put a small piece of silver solder over the crack. Wrapped both ends in wet paper towels. Passed the blade back and fort over the torch so it was not in constant heat. Once solder liquidised made a few more passes and let it cool. The solder was drawn into the crack holding it solid. The hard part was sanding off the excess solder.

You can silver solder a crack in a blade?
Wow - I have a very nice W&B Celebrated Hollow Ground Razor, FBU, with a very tiny crack in the heel, shaved with it a few times, it's fine, but have always considered it down for the count...don't even count it in my collection, I'll have to look into getting that done...thanks for the info.

For the price I figured I had nothing to lose. If it didn't work I planned on grinding the heel to remove the crack and re-profile it.

Real Curios On How The Shave Goes,, Can You Still See The Crack After Soldier?? Ty
-
I sanded excess solder off so you see a line of solder where crack was on one side. Other side you see crack line but it is solid. Have small micro Nick where crack meets edge. It is far enough towards heel it should not affect shave.
Will let you all know how it shaves.

Well Gents. It's Sunday morning and I just finished a shave with the W & B. It was smooth, close and a dream no matter what part of the blade I used. Only area that needs more attention is the tip. Not quite sharp enough for those close corners.
