Very nice find. I don't think the tang is the only thing that is ivory on that razor. A bit of work and she should make a good shaver.

I'm with BobH.
Its a piece of crap, you should send it to me for proper disposal, immediately. [emoji56]
Does anybody know the approx value?
I'm thinking of doing something like this:

but don't want to reduce the value if its worth a bunch
thanks again
Nice W&B, swifty. We don't do valuations here but you can look on ebay to see what similar ones go for.
Thinking of doing what? Putting bolsters on the scales like the Real Red Point razor shown? I would not do that. Your W&B with the scales and matching covered tang is a very cool razor and has a certain look with the collarless pins and everything. If it were mine I would not mess with it much at all. The blade is in good condition with hardly any wear too, that's nice!
If you are concerned about possible issues with the scales (like the hairline cracks or what to do about the wedge end wrapped in wire), someone with more experience with that material will probably be along here soon. What's the back side scale look like?
Great razor, thanks for sharing.
That's a wonderful razor I would certainly leave it as is. Clean it up but don't change a thing. I would say in this case you would devalue if changing.
I'd guess very late 1890s early 1900s. Beautiful razor.
i have heard this before! And I did try to find something similar on eBay but had no luck, if anybody could link something like this ad very much appreciate it.
here is the other side of the scales:

a little bit rougher lol
I believe those are repairable, Sharpton and outback I believe have done this type of work. Hopefully they may be able to guide you.
That blade is in fantastic shape. I don't have enough experience with ivory to give you good advice about the scales. I would urge patience and don't do anything you can't undo until you research all your options.
Is the goal to be able to shave with it? If it were mine, that would be my goal, and I would want to resolve the issues with the scales to be able do so. Namely, the backside scale and near the pivot. Now, how to go about doing that :hmmm:
That is an awesome razor! I was telling Gasman at the meet, I love ivory scales. To have it with an ivory tang is icing on the cake! I say leave it. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy the day,
Benson
The scales can be repaired to a extent. At least be usable again.
I haven't made perfect matches to bone yet, but pretty close, using CA and baking soda. Its supposed to work with Ivory too.
I did save a two day set of ivory scales that were cracked at the wedge, by epoxying two layers of 3/4 oz. woven fiberglass to the inside if the scales.

Mike, just looking at those collarless pins makes my palms sweat. Nice job on those
That is a neat find! I have never done it with ivory, but I have had good luck building and filling bone scales with epoxy mixed with dust from the original material. However, Ivory can be difficult so you might be best sending off to one of the pros on this site.
Very nice! I love the ivory scales and tangs also. I had to have them in my collection also. Lucky enough I got one as a gift for xmas from my girlfriend, and I stumbled across another one online. Here are pics of both of them.
The first one has "celebrated hollow ground razor" on the top of the spine. Nothing on the bottom one :(

This thread is making me sick with envy.
Really nice razors and great skills on display here. Thank you all for sharing.
those are some stunning scales! I wish mine were in that kinda condition!
Sorry to the OP for going off topic a little, but yea that W&B DE is mine. One of the many razors I haven't used yet, especially since this one requires a modified bladeAttachment 272957

I have a pair of Joseph Rodgers & Sons I think they are. I boughtght 'em in separate auctions but both are ivory tang & scales. They're put away but need to be restored.
