Heirloom Straight Razor Display Case
I have to show this off, and this seemed like the best place.
I received this straight razor case from my Dad this Christmas, which has an exceptionally cool story behind it that started about 32 years ago when we moved into our new home out in the country when I was 10 years old. My dad used some of the acreage around our house to plant a black walnut tree grove. As you could guess, a tree from that grove furnished the wood to make the display case.
So, about two years ago, I asked my dad (who's well into his seventies) if he thought he could make a straight razor display case for me. His dad, my grandfather, was a barber and that's how I picked up shaving with a straight razor. You'll note the frosted barber pole in the display case--a nod to my grandpa. My dad didn't shave with a straight razor, but he has always been one helluva amateur (more like semi-professional) woodworker and hobbyist.
I showed my dad some pictures of other display cases and he pretty much took over from there, starting with cutting down the black walnut tree to source the wood.
I am so pleased with how it turned out--it's a true heirloom that really that bridges and pulls together so many family memories and connections. I can't wait to get it set up and start stocking it. I told him I'd share it on the forum because you guys have an appreciation for this kind of stuff.
