Double straigh score

Went back to the antique dealer that just opened up near me and found these two. I really dont have time to do anything with them for a bit but The one marked Montreal was kinda a no brainer as I live in Montreal and the blade is in good shape. Tang is stamped C.T. Bingman (possibly Bingham), Late F. Fenney, Tally. Ho. Sheffield with what appears to be a fox. The other is a WB with what I am 99% sure is plastic but then I have no clue what actual Ivory is. I have no clue how to redo the tang but as there is no chance to look at it for a while that's not a big deal

Nice finds. You could do a hot pin test on the inside of the scales to see if they are ivory. I'd almost bet they are and so is the covered tang.

OK I tried the hot pin test, melted the wedge, not the scales. I guess you may be right. Are the scales reparable and if so anyone here want to take it on as that would be well beyond my skill set.

you would need the missing pieces, but I bet fixing the tail would be next to impossible to repair and then use. Just too tiny of a piece and no way to support it without installing a pin to go thru it lengthwise. But Ive been wrong before.

It could be possible to repair especially if you have the missing piece. Otherwise you'd need a piece from a donor broken ivory scale to shape and graft onto the broken scale. To remove the tang you'd have to unpin the scales, then likely drift out a brass retaining pin before you can slide the tang cover off. The end of the tang cover can be repaired with a donor chunk of ivory or contrasting chunk of black plastic material to be grafted on and shaped. All not for the faint of heart and/or impatient.

I'm sure someone on here has the skills to do it.

I've built up missing pieces before, and they've held just fine. But this was to bone.

I've heard, but haven't tried. CA and Talc, works for ivory

I have seen in theory how its done but I would want to try it and perfect it on bone before I even thought of ivory and well I would need to first get some bone scales, find space learn then find some ivory etc etc..
I just dont see that happening any time soon ;(

Yep, know what ya mean.
I'm still playing around with ideas, working with CA and soda is kinda hit or miss, it sets up instantly. And if its too thick, it won't penetrate all of the soda, before it cures.

The bond is very strong, and the material can be sanded very thin, and retain good strength.
