Joseph Ellliot Fine India

This is the Joseph Elliot I picked up before I got lucky with the Elliot eagle razor, it just came in the mail later. It's a little rougher that I'd hoped, but the price was right.

It's a 13/16 barber notch near wedge with a Fine India and scroll work etch. I'm pretty sure this has been apart at some point in its life since the pivot has nickel collars and the wedge has steel collars. There's a decent sized chip in the edge and the heel has more pitting in the bevel than I would have liked, but it might live. If not, it'll be a good practice razor for things I haven't tried yet. It will probably sit for a while as I'm looking at some easier projects to tackle next.

Is that blade supposed to have that blue tint to it?

No, the color is part shadowing and part gunk. I hit it with some steel wool to get the big chunks off before putting it up and it's regular steel/black rust color.

Sorry if my pics aren't great. I'm finding razors hard to photo, especially when they are all shiny. I know a light box would help, but there's other things I want to spend my time/space on.

I'd give it a good cleaning with 3M metal restorer and steel wool. Then decide what you want to do. Anything beyond that means losing the etch, anyhoo.

The first thing I'll do is see if I can get clean steel on the bevel. If that happens 3M it is. I'm fully prepared to loose the etch, it's pretty damaged already.
