Maybe my best score ever. NOS razors, strop, and brushes.

What's shaken fella's!?

Had to pop in and show you guys the crazy gear I stumbled upon today. I've had some really good finds in the past, but when I saw this stuff sitting in the glass case, I couldn't leave them behind! Rainy day drive out to LeeValley turned into a great day at the Antique market.

2 NOS, Jatco 302 razors one with a round nose, the other with a spike point.

An NOS Jatco Belgium Shell 540 strop, still with the paper on the linen.

2 Merit 99-4 shave brushes, that I think are NOS, but show their age.

I have stopped buying every razor I find under $25, and try to only purchase the unicorns. I believe this fits that category. Went into the antique store looking for a spoke shave, found that too. :)

It's been a while since I've found anything razor related worth buying. Was at the same store last week, this stuff wasn't there.

Persistence has always been the secret to finding the unicorns. At least in my experience.

It's been like that for a while Richard. I literally took last Friday off work, to take my girls to school. No one else was available and my boss owes me some hrs. Dropped the girls off and hit every antique store I could get to from 8:30am - 2:40pm. Only thing I found was a Hults Bruks Hatchet head that I over payed for.

Saw a lot of that rust and empty boxes...

The Burlington Lee Valley or?
I was there yesterday. No antiquing though.

The loo Mike. Highway goes right from my front door, almost to their front door. Bought some leather rivets and snaps. Slid over to the antique store which is a stones throw from LeeValley.

2 stores that can get a man in trouble pretty quickly.

As said heat, and cold spray with carb cleaner or caned air, to shock the bond. Find a screwdriver that fits the slot well and tap with a hammer to break the bond. The lacquer does not help.

Try to break the wear strip loose from the screw head and the wood,(tap it with a brass drift) then you only need to deal with the thread bond.

Nice find, that strop is most likely a KANOYAMA/ KANAYAMA CORDOVAN. Does it have the Cream or Brown linen?

Love those old Kanoyamas, especially the linen. Hydrate it slowly, looks like it needs a bit of oil.

Love the razors also, glad they landed in good hands, enjoy.

Yep, penetrating oil with some tapping of a soft face mallet (like pining). Make the slot and bit fit as well as possible, the more parallel the sides of the slot/bit are, the better. If it's really stubborn chuck the bit up in a drill press to get extra down-force on the screw and turn the press by hand.

A worn small Dremel cut off wheel will yield a deeper slot as used with discretion.
Discretion being key! :rolleyes:
