Inspired by the Verhoeven paper and that he just went to shoe store and picked up some leather for a strop I figured I'd try the same.
I went to a local cobbler, we actually have a real one here in downtown, and they referred me to a leather store up the street. Long story short found two great scraps of black Latigo leather for a song. Took them home cut them down and bored out a couple of holes. The brass hardware is from my Illinois strop that this replaces, the "beener" is an extra from my rockclimbing days. It is 3" wide and about 15" or 16" long. Worked real well on the wedges I strapped this morning. Fast and gritty would be the term. Still backed up with Chrom ox linen. I have enough to make a bench strop to that I may use diamond spray on for giggles.
This strop is thick and stiff. You pull it out and it sits in mid air like a board. Real nice no sag at all.
