I had the pleasure this week of finding an antique Belgian combination stone plus a Wade & Butcher humpback 13/16 hollow ground razor, along with other nice vintage razors, in a Scottsdale AZ antique shop. I guess everyone finally has their day! I look forward to lots of sanding, lapping, and oiling of dry horn scales. Will post "After" pictures. Here are the "Before" photos.
I've given up on our antique stores. :(
The thing is, they get new items in all the time. I got there right after they moved a whole case of razors, mugs and hones from "the back". How I would like to explore "the back". There are about 60 razors left, most junk but a few salvageable. I had to laugh when the seller wanted $75-150 each for Selective brand razors in old Sheffield/Solingen boxes! The Coti cost me $32. The store is at Scottsdale ave and Oak, near the central post office. Check them out!

It was the ZeepK lady, I guess, but there were dozens of old razors of all descriptions besides the Pakikrappy ones. I got a couple of hones, including the coticule. BTW, I cleaned it up tonight and honed a razor nicely on it already! Nothing like a DMT. You wouldn't know it was the same stone, now. There are strops, too. Apparently they just got put on display this week. I thought $32 for a combination stone of that size was a great deal. No cracks at all and it lapped absolutely flat on both sides. The W&B was $20.
Interesting. I guess she finally wised up. Was she still asking for $25 for the zeepks? Or was it $35?
that is a very cool blade,after yo clean it up I'd like to see again that shoulder to tang transition, it looks interesting. congrats!

Congrats on your find!! :tu Local shops can have much better prices than EBay, you just have to visit often as you found the stock changes constantly. Looking forward to the after pics.
The lady wanted up to $150 for a Zeepk!! With rust!! Probably thought the rock was worthless...ha ha ha!!Quote:

The restorations are coming along fine. The coticule looks like new, the W&B has no more rust, and I was able to get off about 98% of the pitting. It is sitting in an oil bath now, refreshing the scales. Pics will follow when I get the final polish on blade and scales. The bevel was fine and I anticipate no problems honing it up. That's so cool. There are a few antique stores here in Maryland. I may have to make a trip over to Kensington tomorrow and see if I can find anything of value. Of course, I just won eight razors on ebay, and the one that I won today is soo sweet. The whole blade is gold though. Never seen one like that before.
Let me know what you think of it. It looks pretty cool.

boy, you guys aren't joking about nothing in your area -- I was in phoenix last Wednesday and decided to hit up a few antique stores. i went to about 7 in a big loop when I was in town from scottsdale -> indian school -> 16th -> central. only thing I found was a really nice felt cowboy hat for my son for $8.50. Theres a couple nice razors in the shop on Indian School & 16th, but, they are too expensive.
Hmmmm...if fishing is free (sometimes) the tackle is certainly not! I have a garage full of ocean rods, reels and tackle that I never use anymore, since AZ won't be beachfront until after the BIG ONE sinks Cali. I shudder to think of what it all cost! But no regrets, except for not getting out on blue water anymore.Quote:

I live in a small to medium size city with a lot of surrounding countryside where the residents come in to town to shop. Maybe you would do better by going to a smaller town to visit antique stores?
