I've run out of straight razors to work on and with the WNY meet coming up in a month I wanted to have a few on hand to restore and hone if needed. Here's what we found in as found condition:
C. V. Heljestrand 9/16s
Joseph Rogers and Sons 6/8s
J. B. F. Champlin and Son 5/8s
Wade and Butcher 7/8s
Greaves and Sons 7/8s
Young 11/16s
John Watt ( the last name is warn away starting at the first 't' so it's a guess)6/8's
Hone - not sure what it is but the pics are after lapping
You ran out of razors and you just resorted just to get some locally, resulting in a loot worthy of a pirate including masonic(?) W&B and other nice big blades... Well. Congratumalations. :). (Though, I can't say I'm not a bit jealous, since I have trouble finding even junked blades locally). So, appreciate where you live and many happy restores on your loot. :)
Wow, great finds. I wish I could step outside my door and find razors like that. :) I'm interested in knowing what type of hone that is........ it's pretty. :)

Another trip to your buried treasure chest, to be sure! Congratulations. How long is that coticule, anyway? The EBOR razor is curious to me-could not read the makers name or see if it is a wedge. Reminds me of the Wostenhom EBRO marking, from their Perseverance Works in Sheffield. Any more info on that one?

Not sure what the hone is. It's about 8 inches long. What about it makes you believe it's a coti? We are going to try to get a close up picture of the hone later tonight.Quote:

JrJoeD took more pics for me to post. Here are some close ups of the hone along with a close up of the stamp on the 'Watt' and it's grind.
To top off this score we e-adjusted our budget am brought two more home with us today. First is a Fredrick Reynolds 8/8s wedge, second a Henckels 6/8s 1/2 to 1/4 hollow. Pics are in as found condition. I gotta stay home now my account is dry!:(

That Reynolds is a beauty. Hopefully she won't be a bear to hone like some others are... Wear looks minimal so it shouldn't be too bad.
CarrieM want's me to save the restore and honing on this one for the meet. Best chance of that would be if she hides it from me. :) I have all intentions of doing so but if it starts calling me in the middle of the night I don't know if I will be able resist.Quote:

That'a a hard one. CarrieM and I are both smokers. I know you are not joking about smelling the hone. That is one of the first things we did. I even had the guy at the shop sniff it and none of us smelt oil. It has a faint smell even after honing but I can't put my finger on what it is. Thanks for the suggestion and the stab at it's origin. You may be correct. I ran a razor over it this morning with water. The water didn't pool up and the hone felt hard and smooth.Quote:

Thanks for digging it up Joe. I had seen where a couple of folks said they had seen that particular wording stamped on razors, and I have been wondering if it was just a convention to not stamp 'her majesty' on a razor
But I know you like going through your stash anyway :)
