...And all you spent was 110...Hell yeah you got a bargain!!!
You did good.
Now, show this page to you wife... :rofl2:
That Norton isn't THE norton, is it? The Axe Norton?
i believe it is a hone favoured by axmen to obviously sharpen their axe. they can fetch a very high price. might you be able to take a photo of the hone by its self? then someone in the know can clarify whether it is or isn’t.
Here's a post about it (vaguely) : http://straightrazorpalace.com/advan...tml#post307038
And this: http://straightrazorpalace.com/honin...ge-norton.html
Yours has an oval...you might have struck the big one there...
Your wife can be proud of such a lucky duck!
The 'axe' Norton seems to bring in the $500.00 ballpark on Australian ebay. If you post a pic of the hone we might be able to tell if you hit the jackpot. One way or the other if the razors are good it was a heckuva deal.
That's quite a bargain you got there. It will be exciting to see if that hone is the 'axe' hone.
Isn't the axe norton more of a red on the face and the slate color (which this hone shows on the face) on the back?
Also, axe norton wasn't sold as a razor hone was it (this one has a razor hone box)?
Either way, you got a steal, congrats.
My dear AussiePosti,
With that impressive a score, any day is a good day. Well done, sir.
Regards,
Obie
Nice combo, even if the hone is not THE Norton. You did very well. THE Norton would be black on one side and red on the other, with Norton in an oval.
nice catch..and i hope that is "the" norton, that would be even sweeter.
Gee! You guys got me so paranoid about this stone, that I just got back from a 3hour ride in 40 C degree heat to pick it up. I was to scared to ring and ask any questions in case they renegged on the deal and I sure as hell wasn,t trusting the postal system at xmas.
What can I say, well worth the trip. The stone is black on top, red on the bottom, with NORTON inside an oval and has only been lightly used on the black side. The box is like new and the instruction sheet has no tears or stains.
Both strops are perfect with no nicks.
One of the razors shows only minor hone wear and two small water marks. The other razor is new and was only taken out of its wrapper and box for the photo.
Apparently uncle Jim, ex sailor and 86years old has been shuffled off to a nursing home without his razor kit or his peterson pre republic pipe which I scored for $15 while I was there. All in all a its been a great week!
Thank you all for your feedback and information.
P.S The wife has informed me that seeing as this is the bargain I said it was I can afford to take her out for dinner, resturant of her choice!!!!!
Look,s like santa came early this year:)
Jackpot! Please post some more closeup photos, especially of both sides of that Norton. Congratulations and my sincere envy.
I took the liberty of contacting a member of the New South Wales Axemen's Association about the stone. His description: "Red on one side, black on the other with the oval logo." apparently, it imparts a super razor sharp edge to the axe, but the individual I asked said he preferred his frictionite razor hone-which Sham also recommends highly if I recall correctly...
