I thought I'd start a thread for my personal collection - being a newbie to the straight razor world.
The three presented are:
Dovo "Bismarck" with gold wash on blade and red plastic handle/scales.
Shumate "Tungsteel" plain blade and black plastic handle/scales
Brummel-Werk plain blade /w/ celluloid "Zebra" handle/scales
Feel free to make a comment or ask questions. I'll tell you what I know. ;)

All good shavers you've got there Phil. Those three could last you the rest of your life and be handed down to your progeny, unless you get the RAD and then there is no telling how many you'll end up with. It's a slippery slope. :)

I REALLY like the 7/8 inch Blade and flame scales.
So far I have one 4/8th's, one 5/8th's, and one 6/8th's blades. I want a 7/8th's and a one inch next. Yup! RAD for sure!!! :D

I got them BOTH for a good price (separately of course) off eBay and BOTH are in magnificent/excellent condition. The HESS was "shave ready" and the Henckel's looks like it is - but needs a pyramid and some stropping before she's "shave ready".
What's the best way to sterilize them JIC (just in case) they weren't already?

Nice score. Personally I've never worried about sterilizing vintage razors and I've never had a problem in shaving with them. If they are grungy I might use some scrubbing bubbles and metal polish but that is the extent of it for me.

Whatever you do to sterilize them, do NOT put them in hot water! those scales could warp all to hell!

As for sterilizing the blades...I would just wipe them down with some alcohol, then rinse the blades in warm/hot water, then dry them thoroughly.
Don't put alcohol or water on the scales, though.

I enjoy my Henckels also. Haven't found one I really don't like. And like you, I am building my heirlooms for my son for when I am past tense.

PS......
I hand polished it (no Dremel) for about three hours off & on to get it to shine the way it does. Handle included.
This is the latest entry to my "stable" of thoroughbred razors. Not pristine but satisfactory. I think I have my 7 day set now, for rotation purposes.
You are looking at a Heinr Boker, "Bokers Special" 5/8th's round point.
Lt yellow - almost cream color, celluloid scales. Unknown year.
There is some pitting in blade at the toe at the top near the spine - both sides. A very small, micro-chip in handle. Blade etching is still visible, but very, very light. Especially after I polished the blade with MAAS to get some previous steel wool (or emery paper) scratches out. And there's an unknown stain IN the scale. You can see it. It's the dark orange-ish spot on the end. Would NOT polish out. I think it's stained into the scale - whatever it is.

This is a recent restoration. It came to me with a pretty huge chip outta the blade. After "butter-knifing" it (some say "bread knife") I replaced the bevel and sharpened it.
I must say it's a great shaver, now! It's in my regular, weekly rotation. :D
Additionally, FYI, this is my very FIRST "restore" on a str8. Never did it before this C-Mon. I think I did "ok". ;)

When I put a razor in hot soapy water to sanitize it, it was a disaster the scale went from black to a olive green :banghead:Quote:
