antique store.. beginner collection

hey crew, my girl picked these up for me at the local antique store, where they were having an Easter half off everything in the store sale, so I think we did ok.

what do you guys think, sorry for the really bad pic

top left one is marked simply with "blue steel' on the tang, nice scales

under it is "102 arrow razor aphrodite syracuse ny" nice scales

bottom left is "Ontario cutlery"nice scales

top right "Areal Tally Ho" if this one never shaves again I can use it to cut down the oak tree out front, the thing weighs a ton. not too bad scales

under it is a "wade and butcher "with some not so nice horn scales?

and bottom left is a "larkin" with some scales that I really like.. the colours really dont show in the pic but I likem.

she picked them all up for 40 bucks.. I am sure we didnt get any steals but nice start to a "beginner" collection I think.

what do you guys think

Under $7 per razor to start any collection is a good deal and exciting too. Everyone needs some starter razors.

I'm a sucker for old blades, so the Tally Ho and the WB are the picks of the litter IMO.

+1 On the Tally Ho. Good pickups all around.

I really like the Tally Ho and the W&B. Great girl and great haul!
Take a close look at the Tally Ho: that was a trademark of the Sheffield cutler F. Fenney, 1824-1852. If there is a fox anywhere on that razor, it is for sure F. Fenney, and maybe even without the fox. Highly desireable old Sheffield razor, at least to me! Your W&B has a nice silver escutcheon plate and inlays in those beat up old horn scales. I have never seen a W&B that would not shave well, with a proper honing. Congratulations and thanks for sharing the pics.

Sweet blades. I've been after a Tally Ho for some time, but no luck yet. I'm jealous.

Thanks everyone, Yes she is a great girl the best in the world I am pretty sure of it. She says she wants to go back because they had another forty or so straight razors left in the case.. so hopefully we can find some other decent ones.

Croaker it does have the fox on the tang and thank you for the information on the razors it is greatly appreciated.

now for the journey of restoring and sending them off to be honed and fixed up.

Most excellent collection! For the price those are very much worth it.

Gosh, when I walk into an antique store around here and ask if they have any straight razors the proprietors just chuckle. The stores are picked clean. You are one lucky guy in more ways than one.

I know what you mean! I have found as many as 8 razors at a single store, but all junk. The proprietor then says:" We had a really nice one last week, but some guy bought it.". There are now a lot of us "some guys" out there picking those stores clean of razors, unfortunately. The trick is "get there fust!"
