Le Grelot and Filarmonica Doble Temple 14 pictures
Hi guys,
So I got these two razors recently: a Le Grelot 6/8 (thanks to Martin at RasurPur) and a Filarmonica - Doble Temple 14 (thanks to Max).
It was a bit a spur of the moment thing; on several threads here I read some good feedback to Martin’s shop. And the Le Grelot 6/8 had a purity that appealed to me. I am sort of an old school kind of guy so I thought I would give the old forged blade a try. Shortly after putting the order I stumbled on Max’s Doble Temple 14 and found out it was for sale. I often found Max’s razors sold out but this one was still to have. Mmm, well if you have an itch, at one point in time, you just have to scratch. So there you go, two heavy hitters bought in a matter of hours.
The Le Grelot has this softness to the shave that indeed, I read somewhere here, feels like toughing your cheeks with silk. Martin has put a bit of bliss on the edge, just wonderful. Although fit with plastic scales they are heavy and thick, the balance is just great.
The Filarmonica was, judging from Martin’s pictures, already a sweet looker. In the metal it is remarkable how this razor has kept itself over 50 years. I hope my photos show a little of the beauty of the blade. The black handles are still in perfect shape. I am not familiar with other plastic objects of similar old age but this looks great. The ‘waves’ in the surface of the logo half are just like craquelé in an old master's painting.
And the single harp emblem, without the ‘Filarmonica’ next to it makes it stand out, I love it. Shaving with the heavy blade is so sweet, Max put a killer edge on it. The handling is very comfortable; the slight off balance of the blade-heavy razor makes it an impressive heavy-weight.
Choosing between them is not what it is about here. It is just that they arrived practically at the same time. And I thought I showed them here in a double feature. Well, here is one happy straight shaver!
Now I will also put some more pictures in the Filarmonica razors club, so see you there.
Thanks,
Paul
