Wow, that is quite a collection!
Looks great Joe. Thanks for posting.
Joe and CarrieM, I knew that you had quite a collection, and was not surprised to see so many beautiful examples of the razor cutlers art. Thank you for sharing such a nice and almost fully comprehensive vision with us! What really stood out for me was your small comment "and all shave ready". I know exactly how much was left out in this modest statement, about the thousands of hours of cleaning, polishing, straightening, tightening and honing that you and Carrie put into this labor of love. And to prepare them for these photographs must have taken at least 2 days. I wish I had kept all my boxes with the razors in my collection, as you have...they are listed on an Excel spreadsheet and bagged by manufacturer. Hell to find sometimes, too! Thank you again for these photos, and for being such a help to others on the forum.
This explains both why I cant fine any decent razors in the antique shops of NY, and why they have become so expensive!
The law of supply and demand decreas ITS ALL JOES FAULT!
Just throw all of them up for sale, and you can single handedly bring the high price of st8s back to the 10 dollar Phily range.
Dont you know hoarding is a sickness? Really now, let me help you get better We all care about you and want whats best from you... I mean best FOR you...:w
Thank you for your kind words and for realizing the effort we put into them. Jr is 15 now and has been honing along side me for a while now. The cleaning, polishing, honing, rescaling and other restoration work is a family effort. We all have fun with the work and are pleased with the results. It's GREAT to have a hobby we all enjoy and work on together.
Many of the razor boxes are not with our razors. The boxes that were falling apart or were dirty beyond a simple cleaning are stored separably. The only boxes that are stored with the razors are the ones I am pretty sure don't have anything growing in them. LOL
Carrie and I were discussing your post here on the way hone from work this evening. Carrie said it took us ~ 4 hours to unpack, inspect, clean and repack them. The three of us were working on them together. The razors were mostly stored in rolls or their boxes so it was just a matter of grouping the new purchases with the razors already sorted last year. Now the trick is going to be to find the ones I haven't shaves with yet and get back in my shaving rotation. :boohoo:
Joed forgot to tell you that was his travel kit!!!!!!!!! Now thats something!
Whoa! That collection is really something! I take my hat off to you and your family for not merely buying them but cleaning/restoring/honing them. That is where the real work come in. Any time your bored, you can start working on my accumulation!:)
Very nicely done,:tu
NICE :)
Makes me want to get all mine out and sort them into groups, getting them a bit more organized. I'm just now getting to the point that I really need to find a serious storage ability and space for them...
