Belated B-day gift from my daughters = Priceless

Belated B-day gift from my daughters,(:tu) and I am proud to say they did very well at the antique mall. They are 14 and 16 and purchased what they could afford.

They didn't know exactly what they were looking for except that I always talk about sharpening stones and razors.

Look what they bought me. A 15/16 razor and a sharpening stone!

Yes, and that is why it is even better, They scored and didn't even know what they had or if I would like it, They just hoped I would.

And they watched me work on my Torrey, and said they hoped I could fix this razor up also.

Priceless, I say, just priceless. You gotta love 'em.

Is it a BBW/Coticule or just a yellow Coticule?

The bottom is brown.

Raise some slurry from it. That should have a purplish tinge. Looks just like a dirty BBW to me.

Yes, Ben, you are correct and thanks for the second Jimmy, it did in fact produce a purple tinge slurry.

Also this was the easiest lapping I have performed.

50 laps on the yellow and all pencil marks gone and less on the BBW side.

I would say it probably wasn't used much.

Congrats om having two find daughters and the shaving gifts they scored for you. Once I started into straight shaving my son and CarrieM have gifted me several shave related items. These items will always hold a special place in my collection as I am sure your gifts will. Be sure to let them know how well they did in their selection! :tu :tu

I do not know much about the Reno razor but being a Solingen I would expect it to be a great shaver. Be careful of metal polish around the gold wash as it may remove it. I would say a good washing w/ soap and water should be good for a while. Maybe a future gift would be to get the back scale replaced and the blade buffed up, bit for now I would use it as is once honed.

Your daughters cared enough to get you something they thought you would want, and they certainly did that! Nice coticule and that blade looks good too-deserving of a new home in some good scales. Have nothing on the Reno line of razors, but what a chopper. Happy birthday.
