Yesterday's catch: Joseph Smith's Celebrated 3415
Hi Folks !
Made the best of yesterday's depressing, drizzly afternoon: went razor hunting. :) Found my first Joseph Smith & Sons "Celebrated Razor 3415".
Despite a broken scale (bone, by the way), I was quite excited and still am. 11/ 16 wedge. All in all, pretty decent shape for a 150 + year-old !
Unpinned it and gave the blade a quick clean up. See pics. Some moderate pitting on the tang now makes the original annotation sound like "...H & SONS... LEBRATED RAZOR 3415". LOL !!! :p
Also, it would take an expert eye (which I still lackbig time !) to tell whether or not the moderate pitting about an inch from the toe will prevent it from ever becoming a shaver again. I am pretty sure it is shallow enough, but will most likely require one of our expert restorers such as Undream to have a close look "in person".
All in all, I'm quite excited and wanted to share this with you ! :beer2:
Cheers !
