My new pups !
Hi Folks !
New pups (pics attached):
1. W&B, Celebrated Hollow. No rust. Nice patina. Horn scales show no cracks whatsoever. Likely candidate for a vintage resto.
2. Scaleless Rhodes and Champion (1814-1826) blade. VERY nice condition. That baby is my absolute oldest ! :)
3. Joseph Elliott Silver Steel Concave Frameback (w/ poor man's scales ! ;-)...)
4. "The Unique" Stern & Chasseur Hollow Ground 16 (Sheffield) w/ homemade wooden scales. Very nice blade. Anyone ever heard about that make ?
5. J.M. Schmid & Son (R.I.) "HOPE" razor. Cracked very shiny bone (or would it be ivory ? Hard to tell...) scales. Fixed w/ black yarn...;-)
6. W&B Hollow w/ clear amber scales-celluloid ?? (idea anyone ?) w/ surface rust. After quick clean-up, no damage on the edge at all, and only moderate pitting on the tang.
Yeah baby !! :beer2:
Take care !

Interesting collection there, I look forward to hearing how they shave, especially blades 2&3. That bottom one is more than likely horn, I've had some like that, but they were toast. Try soaking them in mink oil and they should clean up nicely!

Like the W&Bs, I have got to get my hands on one. or two.
Seeing ones like your Joseph Elliott makes me want to do some custom scales. I have some good materials I'd like to try, just don't have a good candidate yet.
Very nice.

Like shooter said, the scales are translucent blond horn, I would use neatsfoot oil, due to the fact that it is made from horns and hooves and would seem to be more suited to the material, I havent tried mink oil, so I dont really know.

Thanks guys !
Unfortunately, what appears to be blond horn scales were badly cracked at one end, so I took them out in a rather rough manner...LOL...to get to the blade asap.
Thanks again for your help !
