Hey Friends,
I just snagged this Filarmonica Doble Temple 14 last night on e-bay. Looks like there are some minor rust spots to clean, but the price was right. I just hope I don't have to take off the blade plating to clean it.

Nice score David!
Let us know how she shaves..! :)
Very nice~~~
You cant really clean the goldwash without removing it as its so fine, and any polish like MAAS will take it right off.
The rest of the blade can be cleaned as normal though. I'm not much of a restoration guy, and I only have a Dremel, but I'd get as much off with MAAS and a Q-Tip before I broke out any power tools.
Actually, if you really want to get her back to her former glory, you could clean her right up, remove all the gold wash and then send her to Revisor for re-plating.
I'd contact them before hand and see how much it costs though, but that could be a really great way to go with this one!
Hope thats of some help! :)
Yes, it was a great price wasnt it?
Stop Sniping me! :cen
There really should be some team work around here where we can collude, plot, plan, and scheme, to get razors at the lowest prices without bidding against each other. :matrix:
Yea yea yea, market will bear, fair dealing,
Bah! Humbug!
Hmmm. I'm not quite sure how to respond.
Are you suggesting that we should know that you had your heart set on a razor and avoid bidding on it?
Do we build a bidding wall around a razor to make sure that only a selected SRP member receive it? And how do we make sure no non-SRP member wins it?
I do not use a sniping program. I have an idea as to how much I am willing to pay and I assume you did as well. In fact, for $10.00 more you would have had the bragging rites.
I have lost plenty of Duble Ducks and Wade & Butchers in bidding, and probably to a lot of SRP members - I've never complained. IMHO, I think it is bad form for you to do so here on the forums.
Bad form? I suppose if I were actually bitching and not just poking fun at you, yea it would be.
But I still dont see it as a bad idea if the friendly people on here were to try and not bid against themselves.
Of course, as I am selling my razors (hopefully faster than I buy them!)
I am always happy for people to fight for them. :mace:
Now stop taking me so serious, and just tease me back, its Relax time!:beer2:
Agreeing ahead of time not to bid is kinda negating the whole idea of an auction. I suppose you could always post, and state your willing high bid, then that would at least negate a bid war against other members....
When I bid ebay, I will wait until the last 4 seconds before entering my bid at all. I don't get into any bid wars.... I just bid the price that I'm willing to pay.
.:beer2:
Only if I'm the one who wants it ! Nice razor, I really like that one. If it were mine I would try Stu's suggestion of the metal polish on a Q-tip carefully avoiding the gold wash. I've got a couple of Filly 14s in similar condition and it would be nice if they were 100% pristine but they shave so well I forget about the minor imperfections.
Nice score!! I have been looking at the fillys, but one of these days,i might be able to catch someone snoozing and get it for a descent price.Enjoy and let me know if they are worth all the hype!!
I saw that one as well (wasn't bidding it as I assumed it would go higher) IMHO that looks like a pretty good value. Hope she cleans up well for ya! Just an opinion...if you care more about having the razor clean than the beauty of the gold etch, polish away!! I did this on one of my filly's and I found it very liberating...didn't have to worry so much with post shave clean up (of the razor) after the the etch was polished away...a lot of folks my consider this blasphemous but I tend to find gold wash more of a PITA than the beauty added factor is worth....
David,
I am a few days late in congratulating you, but this is an awesome buy :tu. Very nice.
The Filis that I know (And I don't know much) have been spike points...this one is round-ish...did they make round points too or am I way off and need to get out more?
I'm assuming this purchase means you have SWMBO at bay for the moment??;)
Actually, I'm very, very far from the Filly expert here, but I've owned about 5-6 now (DT13, DT14, 2 EPBDs and a Novadur 14), and every one has been a round point. I'd kind of be interested in seeing a square point Filly, because I didn't even know they made them!!
Also, for the person who purchased this, those Filly DTs have the thinnest, flimsiest gold coating you have ever seen. You can wipe it off with two strokes if you're using a polish like Maas or Flitz, and you can even wipe it off just using a towel. Keeping the gold wash would be nice, but to me, having a nice, clean, polished blade is much, much better than a cruddy one (with a gold seal) that no one would ever want to use for shaving. My opinion, anyway.
First that's a great catch. About the gold wash you can polish the areas around the gold wash with a dremel and a felt pad if your careful. The area inside the gold wash will be a bit darker. If it were mine however, I'd have to get all the rust right off it and get back to the beautiful mirror finish. Fillies are IMHO all about the shave and as long as you don't go too wild the etching will still be there just not the gold wash.
Here is the one that Woodchuck was lucky enough to procure.
