Found this at a local Antique store, in pretty good shape.
I'm not sure what the scales are, but the blade (as of now) measures 7/8, and it's a wedge, barbers notch. i think it's going to look pretty sweet when she's all done.
If anyone can help, the scales feel like wood....but they aren't. And they don't feel like bakelite or plastic either. I don't have enough experience with old razors to be able to identify without help.

That looks like it should clean up real nice.
The scales sure look like bakelite to me.
Scales could be "vulcanite" -- hardened rubber. Rub it hard between you fingers and take a whiff (the scales, you pigs) --- if it's rubber, you'll know it pretty quick.
Bakelite wasn't commonly available until the mid 1920's, that razor is older. Any owner might have had it re-scaled, though.
That's my vote too. I like hard rubber on scales, but for the OP hard rubber is particularly sensitive to UV...make sure to keep that nice razor out of direct sunlight or you'll end up with green scales :)Quote:

The blade has been sanded and buffed. It's now in a set of temporary scales until I can get to the larger tools that I keep at the cottage. I think the blade came out very nice.
It's in the Custom Built and Restorations section. Take a look.
It's also hanging out in pictures with a Wade and Butcher wedge.

I don't know why, but wedge razors are my favorite. Can't wait to see what it looks like when your done with it.
