Older Sheffield "warranted" razor

I suspect that it is no older than the 1960's. I rec'd this razor w/ a razor box that I bought off of ebay. I applied some Simichrome to it but I suspect that only a buffer would be able to remove all of the rust. There appears to be no rust on the edge and it also appears to be a wedge. I'm guessing that it is a generic razor that was included w/ my shave box that had other implements included that were marked "french ivory" (faux ivory) that are undoubtedly the same mat'l the scales were made of. The scales were thin & cracked, beyond repair, so I removed them as a safety measure as they were exhibiting splintering. It is marked "The Princes Own". Anybody ever heard of it? It is no big deal for me really as I entered the auction solely for the razor box & the razor was not even mentioned in the ad.

Nice razor you've got there. IMHO Simichrome is a great way to go if you want to remove active rust but leave a delicate etching....good job there!

Methinks it's no later than 1892-1905

It's my box w/ a buck deer on it. I'm very happy w/ it. It doesn't have any markings on it but it appears to be professionally made in a factory. Here it is:

Really. I've never seen one like this elsewhere but I've only been trolling the classifieds for @ 4 or so years. I believe my shave box was sold as a set w/ a brush, mirror, razor, button-holer, and a small scraping implement. All marked French Ivory. Is the blade type different on yours? Here's a better view that I took w/ better lighting BEFORE I went at it w/ Simichrome:

Here is a quick photo of mine. I've gotta say, everything about the blades looks exactly the same.

I had a Reynolds with the same etching, same blade style

They both do look very similar in the engraving, the notch, & the shank. Thanks.

Seriously? I haven't attempted to look it up.

I have owned 2 razors marked "The Prince's Own". Neither one would hone up to an edge acceptable to my standards. I think the steel was inferior in both. Just an opinion.

Mine looks like a wedge possibly. Were yours wedges?

No, they were hollow ground. Just would not take a good edge no matter what stone or honing technique I tried.
