Couple razors from an antique shop

Well I found a couple razors I think I got a good deal on.

First is an H.K. Friodur No Stain. The scales are excelent along with the blade. No spots any where. The pins are loose so the blade is loose in the scales, I will have to learn how to make them tighter I guess.

Second is an older looking Wade and Butcher. Looked cool to me. This guy has old wooden scales that are worn but I think would look really cool all cleaned up and restained. The blade is clean, tarnished, but clean.

Got them both for $54 total. Dont know if I got ripped off but it seemed good to me. Have a look.

Sweet razors! Those are some of the really sought after ones; vintage Friodur and a big ole W&B. The W&B scales are almost certainly black horn, not wood, so please don't stain them. Also, having writing pressed in is on the rare side. Can you post a closeup of the front scale?

So from your guys point of view, should I just give the W&B a good cleaning, basically sanitize and hone, and just leave it the way it is other wise?

You did VERY well. The W&B is a real gem, I'd do as little to it as possible.

Lay it on the flat portion of a vice and GENTLY peen the pins with a small ball peen hammer. You can get one at Harbor Freight or Sears. I use this 8 oz. ball peen for that.

Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

You just want to tighten it up, don't beat it to death. The pins are probably leaded yellow brass, which is very soft, but will work harden and snap.

Cool thanks, did the trick. I think the scales are warped on the friodus, after tightening up the pins the tip will come in contact with the scales when closing it. But still good.

Any one know a good honer, I know there is Lynn, but he seems swamped lately and would like to try others as well. Dont think im quite ready to try honing on my own yet.

I hope no one thought that this was a negative on Lynn. He has done my razors thus far and love his skills. I just meant i was looking to see who else was a honemeister around hear I could send them to as well. I know Lynn is a busy man, and would like to help support others as well. Just like to spread the wealth is what i was getting at. I like options.

the horn looks pretty good, but if you oil it in netsfoot oil it'll be even better.
if you go to the classifieds under member services you'll find a whole bunch of people who offer honing services. i hear glen's gotten pretty good lately, but he likes wedges :)
