I don't know anything about DE or SE razors, but for $0.50 I couldn't resist this little guy. I'm afraid to try it for fear of starting another AD. ;)

Gems are great shavers. Once you try it, you'll be hooked.:)
You can find blades in Walgreens, CVS and if not Ted Pella. I personally don't find the Gem to be that great on my phizzog but YMMV. Can't beat it for the price. :tu
Gem Micromatic Open Comb. It looks like the twin brother of my first ever real razor. In my experience the SE blades from CVS are not very good the rust with amazing speed and won't take over a shave or two. If you can find another source (i.e. Sweet Bay or Winn Dixie super market) those blades would probably be a better bet. SE safety razors are indeed quite close to the shave quality of a straight (IMHO.) Great price too.
Shaved with one this evening actually. Until I get my straight resto done, it's all I will save with. If you're serious about shaving with it, get some Ted Pella ptfe coated blades. They are medical/dissection blades and really a great blade. The OCMMs are great razors. Aggressive as far as SEs go, but fun.
For a moment there I thought it was a hand powered front end loader with scarifier attachment.
