Razors under 4/8 in general seem relatively uncommon, though there are exceptions. Engels made a Sculptor, DD has the... StyleEdge? and Dovo makes a 3/8 as well. I've also seen a few from various makers, including W&B, that are 3/8.
Personally, I don't like them. Since the blades are so narrow, I find they are much easier to roll while honing or stropping, and I have to pay more careful attention to my shaving angles as well. I also don't like the tiny tangs.
While they aren't as common I don't think that there has ever been a great market for them. The larger razors didn't have a huge market in the history of the razor until now, but the market for narrower doesn't seem to have changed.
I recently saw a razor that I was initially certain started life as a 3/8, but upon further inspection realized may have started life as it is currently, 2/8. It had no spine wear. I don't know of anyone who would want to strop, hone or use the razor.
A restorer told me that they were for the detail work, for hard to reach areas (heh heh)
While that may be their intended purpose, as suggested by the names of many, the size of a razor has nothing to do with the surface area it can shave. If it's properly honed and used, a 2/8 razor would shave your whole face just as well as any "normal sized" razor.
They're a lot easier to handle and manouever the smaller they are
I want one. Be great for cutting nose & ear hair.
I have a couple Henkles of the less than 3/8ths size with no hone wear. They stay in the cabinet. I think that the size may have been used by barbers for "detail work." MIght be good for removing "unibrows" and above a mustache under a big nose.
