strops and a BIG razor
ive had a busy few weeks on my hunts for shaving items, but they have been fruitful in many ways.
i recently picked up a torrey paddle strop, a strop that looks to have come from a barber supply, a red imp strop, and a nice big razor that measures in at 9/8. this post is somewhat pic heavy.

That meat cleaver has some interesting etching on the blade.
-
i know, unfortunatly, its not etched, so i have to be careful when i go to remove the real fine rust on the tang
-
Isn't that a "Masonic" razor? Meaning, very valuable for its etching? Be careful with that one...

I have a feeling that the "tumbler method" may be the best way to clean that one up. You could hand sand out most of the pitting except for the side of the blade where the reverse etching is, then drop it in the tumbler. It's about the least destructive method I know of for really cleaning up a blade. Not 100% sure if the etchings would stay or not. Even if they didn't, you surely have a keeper.

i dont know it that is all masonic, i did notice the masonic symbol on it. and shooter, i think you are correct, only problem is i dont have a tumbler
-
If you want to try it in the tumbler, strip the scales, sand what you want to about 2K, send it to me & cover the return postage. PM me if you want to & I'll send you my address.
I'm a reloader, so I had the stuff already...

appreciate the offer. i may take you up on that one, i am trying to figure out a way to turn this project into a reason to get a tumbler, have to spin it with swmbo, if you know what i mean.

Surely I understand. Nice thing about the tumblers is that you just drop them in and forget about them till the next day...then decide if it needs more or to change media to finish it off. I prefer it to any other method of restoration if their is anything etched on the blade. I buy a lot of stuff from Shop Shooting Supplies | Reloading | Gunsmithing | Hunting gear — MidwayUSA when it comes to reloading.
The offer still stands if it doesn't work out with SWMBO...
