I have gone through much of this site looking for some (ANY!) information on a set of razors that I have got from my father. He was the king of collectors. He primarily collected safety razors (boy do I have tons of them!) and blades but I came across this set and was really intrigued. But darned if I can find anything about anywhere.

I see where this is a pretty educated and enthusiastic group so just maybe someone here can guide me to a resource where I can learn up on this set.

It is a 7-Day set of straight razors from Tiger in Solingen. I've posted some pictures below. The case looks rather old but the blades themselves look in very good shape so I don't even know if the box goes with the razors or the razors are just in that good shape. Anyway I could ramble on forever....lets get to the pics. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? I don't know about tiger... I think I may have seen one once but that could be my imagination. I can tell you that your father was a smart man that had 7 nice razors in his collection. Solingen was a city known for it's quality razor manufacturing and from what I can see those razors are in great shape. Complete 7 piece sets are rare especially in such good condition. I hope others can help you more.

Any body would be proud to put their hands on that!

Welcome to SRP. Nice set. Do they have the days of the week engraved on the top of the spines ? Couldn't tell from the photos but most 7 day sets did. The box is the generic Solingen 7 day set box that many of them came in. Some would have the company logo/name printed on the lining where you would see it when you opened the lid. We have a member named manah who may be along and if anyone can give you any history on the company he can. We don't do appraisals on SRP so we can't help you there .... just in case you were wondering.

If you want to begin learning how to use those beauties the SRP Wiki has tutorials and videos and you can have them professionally honed by one of our members who offers that service in the SRP classifieds under member services. Best way to shave I've found in 45 years of doing it.

Hey guys thanks for the quick info. Does anyone have a guess to how old they might be? This is so cool! I've never shaved with a straight razor before but I may have to give it a try! Certainly better chance of using these than the old safety razors!

To JimmyHAD yes the day is engraved on each spine.

Thanks again for the help so far. And yes, my Dad was a pretty cool guy. Collected just about everything in the world, not a horder but just had an eye for cool stuff. He had so much stuff we had to move a bunch of it down from the attic because the joists were sagging the ceiling (he was storing his antique clothes iron collection up there among millions of other things.)

The information about this set I have for you, is that it is awesome set of great condition razors that should shave you well for many years.

I have a Lauterjung "TIGER" 39 but I don't know if your 7 razor set is made my that manufacturer or not. I do know by looking at your set that they are quality made razors. My advice is hone them up and see how they shave. I have two 7 day sets and yours is a tad nicer than both of mine. Please keep them and use them.

I'm confused....which isn't that tough to do. So "Tiger" is not the manufacturer and Soligen is the city where they were made. Who made these? When? What good is having a cool item if you don't know the story of its coolness?

Solingen was reknowned for their blades. So, in general, anything from Solingen should be given a shot as we have all had great results. From what I can find from Archiving Industry, Tiger was made by Lauterjung & Co who also had other "brands" as well. This thread, seems to say that Lauterjung is the lineage by which PUMA came to market, which of course is a highly regarded brand. I couldn't confirm that Lauterjung & Co. is the same as Lauterjung & Sohn in which is mentioned in the linked thread.

Either way, it appears to be quite the find, and you should be pleased. A hint to the quality, besides the obviously well done metal work, is the inclusion of a 3rd pin in the scales. I have come to associate that feature with an improved quality. Not all quality razors have it, but many do.

If you need someone to hone them for you, let us know, as I'm certain that there are many guys who would be willing to help a new guy get a good start to using straights if you were so inclined.

Very possibly a Puma product. Note that IIRC Lauterjung was either the family name of the folks who owned Puma or the name of the person who ran the company. Here is a post with photo of a Tiger that is a dead ringer for a Puma Gold. It is from the razor clubs forum 'Cathouse' club.

This page has a little information about the company, but again, I haven't been able to confirm it by a authoritative source of any kind

Yes, that's the family name of the people who owned Puma.

Here is another 7 day set of Tigers out of the Cathouse in razor clubs.

Here some info about Lauterjung & Companie, Tiger Stahlwaren- und Waffenfabrik, Solingen.

The family names of the solingen makers can be a bit confusing.
There where several Lauterjung familys in Solingen as where even more Ern familys.
A "TIGER Stahlwaren- und Waffenfabrik Lauterjung & Co", which made Your razors and "Lauterjung & Sohn PUMA-Stahlwarenfabrik" which was a competing Company.
As far as I know the companny "Lauterjung & Co" has been erased from the commercial register in 1986.
The trademark "Tiger" has been taken over by the Solingen company Wilhelm Eicker but in their current web site I could not find any product using it.

Jimmy, probably yes. But, as Chris said, there were several Lauterjung families in Solingen. And many of them had family business.
I know one more well-known cutlery company of Lauterjung families from Solingen: Hugo & Friedrich Lauterjung.
And many of them had dealers in US.
Who had any family relationship? Difficult question.:)

They had one thing in common besides their name, they all made fine razors. :)

Looks like a fine set of German made in Solingen razors.

Another asked if there was a day of the week etched
on the spine. It can be interesting to note the language
used for the day of the week. The language will tell you
the market for the razors.

Lightly oil them so they do not develop rust.
You can use mineral oil, or even a wipe for blue steel
from a gun shop. Caution they are sharp.

A full intact seven day set is not common.
Too often one or more gets damaged by the
first owner. Along this line I might suggest that
if you want to shave with them, first find a starter/
educational razor perhaps from the SRP classified
above to learn on.

I followed a couple Google links... There was a
Tiger brand in Solingen that has a good reputation
but did not make millions of razors.

It looks to me that you have a fine box of shavers there.
Take care of them.

I don't know if this is off topic or what but I thought you might be interested in another very unique piece I have found in my dad's collection. Ever heard of a Prometheus shaving lamp? Check this out, it is pretty neat.


Fill the tube with water, replace the brush, light the burner, and insert in the tube - the burner heats the water, so that you have a warm brush for the shaving soap.

It is pretty neat going through the boxes of my dads collection.

Now that is one cool brush! Reminds me of a scuttle just much older.

If I had found that I would be half tempted to clean that up and get a replacement knot and have fun with it but either way I would keep it. That piece is too cool!

Now that I know those exist there go my weekends, again, searching all those antique shops. This means I'll be looking for anything that resembles a candle stick but with a brush. :)

Yeah, most that I was able to dig up on Tiger Solingen was that they made a heck of a bayonet and knives.

I Had one. I am pretty sure it has Friedman and Lauterjung. It was a half hollow and shaved great. There is a similar set in the cathouse razor club. I dig that brush!

I just recently picked up a Tiger on a trip to Greece - found it in a flee market. I bought it for 20 euros, and had Maxi clean it up and put new scales on it. Mine looked exactly like yours, with the exception of the square point (mine's round). I also have a "49" and three diamonds over small circles stamped on the shank. Here's my before and after, in case you're curious.

Yep...those are one in the same. I'm just not a straight edge guy, and I've got so much shaving stuff from my dads collection that I have to get rid of it. I mean if my dad had shaved with them for years I would definitely think differently, but I don't think these have ever been used. Why not let someone else who will really enjoy them have em?
