Lightly restored Original Pipe Razor
Well I managed to acquire this great razor from eBay for a song and it was in great condition before I got it. I was so happy I got it and love it.
Once it came in the mail I polished the blade with MAAS and that's all. It shines like it's new despite being over 100 years old.
Once the scales were unpinned the embossing was repainted with gold. The scales were sanded lightly with 400-600-1500 wet sandpaper and then rubbed down with polishing compound and then Turtle Wax once the paint was dry. There is a tiny bit of cracking on the back side of the pivot pin that I have no idea how to re-enforce. Any help there would be appreciated.
Once repinned the razor basically looks like new and then it hit the hones. I started with tape and then set a bevel on my 1k. Moved on to the Norton 4/8k and once done with that final finishing on my new Ozuku Asagi with tomonagura and then water.
I shaved with it tonight and what a crazy sharp edge it takes!! Up to this point I have only shaved with full hollows and this 1/2 hollow is a totally different beast. I learned that in a bit of a painful fashion but I love shaving with it as much as I thought I would.
