7/8 Frederick Reynolds Prince Alberts

I just scored this razor...I wish that I could say that I found it at a yard sale or an estate sell...Then I would just be a liar. But what I can say is that I really like the etching on the blade, the manufacturers stamp on the tang is deep/clear and it's really clean overall.
The tail is on the shorter/thicker side which would lead me to believe that the razor is earlier than 1890 as listed.

I await it's arrival with open arms and freshly manicured hands. I would buy anything from someone whose hands looks this amazing.

LOL My wife would agree, I'm bidding too much. I just received one yesterday that I need to put pictures up, and I have 4 that I picked up just since Friday. I think some people missed some good finds on the weekend because of the holiday. My haul for the four were all under $20 each including shipping. Now that being said, one or two will need some work, but oh well. Seeing as Wullie and a few have shown their scores, I'll start a thread with all my razors later today, just for fun. I know most here love pictures, as do I. ;)

Cove you need to school me then. obviously I'm doing something wrong. I've picked up 5 in the last week and a half averaging over $100 a razor. Maybe I should start doing more reading than buying. I just watched some of Lynn Abrams DVD segments on youtube and none of my razors would be considered collectables...LMAO With the rust, chipped scales, frowning blades and over pricing...I'm losing the battle here. (just joking) Lynns got some great vids though.

It came yesterday and it looks amazing. it needs some work but I would touch the etching. Haven't shaved with any of the razors that I have purchased so that part I cannot comment on but Wullie has the exact same razor so I'm sure he can be of some help there.

MIne looked pretty rough when I got it.

Blade was chipped and scales looked like poo. I sanded the rough spots and polished them with MOTHERS after soaking them in mineral oil for a few days.

I tried to leave as much of the etch as I could and didn't polish the front side. I stopped and removed what rust there was with a No 2 pencil lead.

I sharpened it on 1k Chosera and took it up through 5K, 8K, and 12K Naniwas. It takes a mean edge. Right now the edge is a bit harsh it seems. It may mellow a bit with some more stropping but it will cut some whiskers or whatever it hangs up on. LOL. I may take it to one of my coticules and see if that will mellow that edge a bit. Just have to experiment. My other FR was finished on a coti and it is simply awesome the way it shaves.

Those look like quite the beastly big wedges, and I mean that approvingly. It's nice that the seller cleaned between the scales--but maybe not surprising, given her manicure.

Yes please go into greater detail about this restore process. You've truely captured my eyes and ears with this one. Wullie you are my new best friend. Sharpton you're out...LOL just kidding

1) So did you soak both the blade and the scales in mineral oil? or just the blade or just the scales?

2) If just the scales did you take the blade apart first?

3) whats the deal with the number 2 pencil? Do you sharpen the pencil first before using? Does it remove rust own to the bare metal? I am intriqued. If there are other posts on this method please feel free to pass the links on (when you have time of course)

I feel like throwing my blade into a vat of oil too now. There are some brilliant people at SRP. Thanks in advance

I did not take it apart.

I stuck the whole thing in the mineral oil and left it for a couple of days. Then I removed it and left it alone for about a week. I figured the scales would either rehydrate or fall apart.

No2 pencil lead trick: SHARPEN THE PENCIL!!! Use the pointy end on the rough/rusty spots. It will remove the crud and leave the steel unmarked. No it will not take it to shiny bare metal. I've been using that trick on guns that rusted since the 70's when somebody showed it to me.

I did sand and polish the back side of the blade. However the front is pretty much as received, minus active rust that was toward the toe and over Albert's name.

The scales were sanded from 400 grit to 2K grit and then polished with Mothers Mag and Aluminum( SCALE/blade ;) ) polish. I sanded the toe radius back into a radius from where it had been dropped.

Check out that seller's ebay profile pic and wonder why George is curious. LMAO

Thank you for taking the time to answer the question so thoroughly. I've already tried using mineral oil to start to remove rust and it was coming off just using my fingernail . Not even 10 minutes later! amazing

looks almost like the same one you guys have except without the etch on blade ive been using it as of late and cant seem to stop lol i love these wedges they take a great edge.Almost no burn ,almost lol.
