Fresh from the farm(literally)

Stopped at a barn sale today and walked away with three straights and a barbers hone. The barbers hone is a Boss Barber that should clean up well afer some lapping. It looks a lot worse in the pic than it actually is. The sraights, from top to bottom, are a 11/16 Geneva Cutlery, a 5/8 Mag-Nam(which I think is made by Union Cutlery) and a little 4/8 Engels extra hollow. I haven't cleaned any of the razors yet, but I don't forsee any major problems, though the Mag-Nam may need a little more work due to a spot of rust near the edge towards the heel.

Started cleaning the razors and found something really cool on the back side of the tang on the Mag-Nam. Under the rust I found the remains of the back tang stamp. It says "Cooper & Totten Barbers Supply, Cambridge Ohio". What makes this interesting, to me at least, is that Cambridge is only about 20 miles east of where I live. Makes me wonder who owned it originally since it is still close to home.:)

Sweet score Theseus! I found a razor at the antique store about a month ago that had Elyria Hardware Co. on the tang and M.I Germany on the opposite. My mom remembered where that place was. We grew up about 8 miles from there.

Awesome score....I love the antique store/flea market stuff. You never know what you'll find.

Wow sweet find for sure and all at the same place!

Got all of them unscaled though I broke the Engels scales getting the pin out. For me, 66% success rate is pretty damn good when removing scales.:)

Too bad about the scales breaking. We all do it though. I broke a scale about two weeks ago and replacements are on the drawing board.

I kind of expected these to break on me. The pin was pretty well rusted in the scales.

Now I really love this score. Went back to the farm where I bought them and asked about them, showing them the stamp on the Mag-Nam. Turns out that their Grandmother had a small barbershop in the house that she used to shave and cut the hair of the farm hands that worked there. The family seemed happy that the razors were going to someone who was going to take care of them and use them. Definitely a treasured part of my rotation now.:)

Now that makes it SO COOL!!!! Use in good health!!!

Got the Geneva cleaned up and honed last night and got to shave with it. One word, "Outstanding!" Once again, I'm left wondering why American made razors don't have the same following as Sheffield and German razors. I see these Sheffield razors selling for $100+, meanwhile my 7/8 Novelty Cutlery, which shaves as good if not better than a W&B, only cost me $10 on the bay.:shrug:
