Shaved With The SRP Logo LE Straight Razor Prototype # 000

Got my Robert Williams SRP Logo prototype #000 and kicked the tires, drove it around the block. I got a close, comfortable and smooth BBS 2 pass shave with it. It is a very nice handling razor. I am so glad that the logo, once Robert sized and printed it out, called for a 6/8 instead of a meat chopper. This is a razor that I will put in a frequent rotation. I like the big 'uns once in awhile but find myself picking up the 5 and 6/8 more often than not.

It is a beautiful design. The curves just flow. Robert did a great job of bringing Michael C's design to life. Robert said that he honed the razor with one layer of electrical tape and it was truly shave ready for this member's whiskers. The proportion, heel to scales, is perfect for comfortable stropping, not too close, not too far. The thumb notch and the sweep of the spine make manipulating the blade easy.

I happen to be a fan of smiling blades. If you've never shaved with one as curved as this one be assured that it is easy and nothing to be intimidated by. I think it is more forgiving in terms of safety than a straight profile. Anyhow, here is my copy. I put it in show & tell so it wouldn't be buried in the announcement thread. For those who have ordered one, you'll be a happy shaver when your number comes up.

That really is a nice looking razor, kinda sexy. Darn it, and I just resolved within myselft to not buy anymore razors now that I have seven, all shave ready but one, and that one will be honed by this weekend. Now I find myself looking at this razor, and I'm on the fence ...

If you don't already have a smiler, DO IT! They really are friendlier to shave with, especially if your face has hollows here and there. Plus, of course, you'll always have a good one in the house when the other six are out for honing.

Really, if it speaks to you and you don't listen to it, in a year you'll still feel the regret. In five years you'll still feel the regret. I ask you, IS THAT ANY WAY FOR A MAN TO LIVE??

I'm really looking forward to the user group that forms around these, and to discussions of hones and honing that we can all have around the exact same razor.

Sweet. Could you tell us what type of grind the blade has? For example 1/4,1/2 or 3/4 hollow.

That really is an awesome razor. The lines are very nice, I love the sweeping spine. Amazing job by Robert!!

Check out Michael's. They have lots of pre-made wooden boxes. Several of us have display cases adapted from their shadow boxes. I'd post a pic of mine, but I'm on my phone at the moment.

I just know I'm going to hate missing this opportunity...

He is in the midst of the first 4. It is going to take some time for all orders to be filled. He has to each of them one at a time in addition to his regular custom orders. He estimates 3 to 4 on a good week .... once he gets rolling good.

I'm envious of everyone who was able to get on the list. It's a bit of art with function.

LOL, The first report was 3-5 a week and I was hoping that he started a few weeks back.

Oh well, I hope he takes his time (especially when he gets to mine:)) and I have it in time for my Birthday...

He had to wait a bit until he got an idea of how many orders he would get before he ordered the steel and the G-10 for the scales. He doesn't keep that much on hand unless he has a need for it. He has the material now so they'll be rolling out as he does them. Since they are going to be typical I imagine the process will speed up, without sacrificing quality, as he gets in the swing of making the same thing over and over.

Robert posted yesterday that he is finishing up his other custom orders this week and will begin the SRP razors next week. These SRP razors are going to be very special for all of us who ordered. Just my 2 cents but I think we all need to allow Robert to work his magic without bother from us as to when they will be finished. Many members here understand that producing a razor at the level of quality that Mr. Williams maintains is not an easy task and we have been most fortunate that a craftsman at Robert's level was willing to undertake building our special razor and at a very, very fair price.

I have been wavering for two days now. I had promised myself that the large Heckles that I bought a few years ago would be the last substantial investment in straights. Oh, I would be allowed $20 here and $50 there. Last month I managed to convince myself that a Tamahagane razor was not really a straight. Now I am trying to find a way to convince myself that a custom would not really break the rule either... Very nice looking razor.

I suppose that I could remove a few of the razors from my collection that I would no longer use after this arrived in order to finance it and call it even?

looks realy nice in the latest pictures i'm glad i orderd one .. jimmy i don't supose you could find out what mm electricaltape rob used .. i have 0.15mm. i'd like the same mm that he uses for future touch ups . cheers gary

You are correct, I do have a smiling blade, a 9/8 W&B, and it is much friendlier on the hollows of my face. Anyhow, I went ahead and ordered one today.
