From the looks of it, I would put a layer of tape on the spine and hone it up. I have had a few like that. They hone up sooooo easy and shave wonderfully. Nice work!
Very nice razor indeed. Hone it up and give it a test shave, if you don't like it, well, there may be a member or two willing to take it off your hands.
Sweet find, enjoy.

Panhandle boy huh? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth,_Texas :rofl2:Quote:

Called my boss from Muleshoe one night, which just happens to be 12 miles from Earth. HE wanted to know I was. I told him I was 12 miles from Earth. A short silence ensued and he told me to call him again after daylight and to save some that dope I was taking for him to try. :)
That razor sure is pretty, I'll swap ya one with some "neighborhood" on it and and probably not ask for much boot. ;)
Hone that darlin up and use it for what it was made for.

That's not a real address. You're missing a street name, number to correspond to your exact location and a zip code. That blade will never make it to you without those proper pieces of information. You should not be on this forum unsupervised. Grab the nearest adult and proceed.
Handsome blade there! Let us know how it shaves ... And how Lake Michigan was. ;)
Ah! And there lies the conundrum. Much of the value is in the NOS unhoned state for a desireable razor of that age and status! It's only NOS once!!! I couldn't hone and use it and I can't actually tell you why, except, you'll have razors that will shave as well as this one, but you'll never have one in the NOS state of this one. The following is my dilemma. Couldn't get images to load from the archive with my IPad so here's a link to the razor, post #26. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...-models-3.html

Oh you must give her a go. Nothing wrong with being the first. I was the first once. Oh wait no I wasen't. That no good dirty W%&#e
Just tape the spine. "touch up" the factory edge. Shave with it! Who would know? 110 years from now, someone will call it NOS!
It might have already been done for all we know!
Nice find! Enjoy and be sure to let us know how she shaves.
Very nice! How did you aqquire it? As much as I would be tempted to use it, ''SirStropalot'' makes a valid point. :hmmm:
This is JMHO but, if you're gonna have a blade like that sitting around you may as well use it and enjoy it. I have a or I guess had a NOS Filarmonica EPBD that I use in my rotation...I'll be darned if I'm gonna let a nice blade like that just sit there and look at it  The amount of steel you'll remove in a lifetime of honing isn't gonna make that much of a difference.
Here is one I had. I could swear it had not been honed a bit. I taped the spine and it surely did not take much to have it splitting hairs. They did not have tape to use back then and some were less than stellar honemeisters.
The ones we restore which have been honed and used a lot are sometimes buggers to get going.
Ones which are as-new are easy!

I would also suggest, taking some clear pictures of the finish on that blade. That particular finish was known as a "glaze" finish whilst those that had mirror like finishes were called "crocus".
Contrary to what some restoration people think, not ALL razors were sold with a mirror shine. ;)
A lot of the old pocket knives only had a shine on one side of the blade too.
You've got a great razor. ENJOY!!

Thanks Wullie for that tidbit. I did notice it is sort of a satin finish, it still is shiney but not mirror. I've got alot to do but maybe this weekend I'll put her to the stones and have a shave.
If you *don't* hone it up and shave with it, I'm not going to let you use my drill press.
So there.

Yessir! Its a lightbox, scale making, shadowbox, laundry and beer drinking weekend for me tho, not sure I'm going to have time!
