Bartmann High Class 7/8 (15/16) NOS

I went to GrandDad's Antique Mall in Burlington, North Carolina today, knowing I shouldn't buy any more razors, but saw this beautiful Bartmann. I've seen forum, BST and ebay posts and wanted to try one. The razor blade was still coated in the packing grease and has the Bartmann Solingen tag attached and the pristine box. The number is 86. The edge can shave arm hair already, so I will just strop on linen and leather before I shave tomorrow morning. Compared to ebay prices I got a very good deal on this straight.

Congratulations! Bartmann's are among my favourite razors (I happen to own two, and no I'm not selling). And in nos condition as well !
I do prefer the 504s with the worked spine however.

Thanks. I haven't seen many people post about the Bartmann and can't find much history. Glad to know there is someone else out there who enjoys them. Do you like the 504s for the look of the spine or the feel of the razor in your hand? Photo?

Whoa !!! Robert that is a REALLY nice Bartman, please let us know how the first shave goes, it really is an exceptional opportunity to test out an edge them same way as the makers intended back then...

I go for the looks, definitely. Not that it doesn't feel right in the hand, but most of my razors feel right, it's the looks that make the difference.
Also, all the Bartmann's I got my hands on were really easy to sharpen and took a perfect edge.

I don't find those 'manganese steel' ones so very easy to hone.
But ones they are honed...truly fantastic shavers.

Just as you suggested, Glenn, I just stropped on linen (worn blue jeans) and my Walkin' Horse horse butt strop and received a shave of perfection with the Bartmann. I really like this one!

Oh, I do like the looks of your 504. Once I get my hands on gold wash razors, I immediately mess up the wash. I do like that spine. Very nice.
