Another victim of RAD

Due to my recently diagnosed and "professionally confirmed" RAD, I was forced to purchase the following...Attachment 111027Attachment 111028Attachment 111029Attachment 111030

It's a Hibbard Spencer and Barlett, "Our Very Best." It is supposed to be 5/8 but I'll have to see when she gets here...Looks to have horn scales as you can see some natural grain in the pictures but I could be wrong...Gonna polish, hone and shave nothing more...

From my research it seems that once RAD has set its fiendish hooks in on an individual it becomes systematic and remains for the life of the individual with the only hope being periods of dormancy.

Not to Hijack my own thread but is it "faux pas" to make known price one paid in this forum?

This razor looks like it will clean up nicely, the etching on the blade is really nice hope it will stay, Enjoy

No problem with letting us know what you paid. We just can't, and won't tell you what we think it's worth, forum rule.

RAD is the first affliction. HAD (hone) is next, and then there's always SAD, soap, and on and on!!!

Another way to perceive your RAD is thusly: You don't have too few razors, it's that everyone else has too many and you're merely leveling the playing field!

That razor should represent a "True Value" -- that's what "HBS" evolved into. Always great razors, and yours is distinctively shaped. My bet on the scales would be "vulcanite" -- natural rubber hardened with sulfur. Rub the scales briskly between your fingers when you receive it, see if they smell like tires. Then -- polish, hone and enjoy, that should be a great razor for years to come.

Nice razors, from the one I've got and from what I've heard (mine took an excellent edge)! Then you have FAD ... frag disorder :D

Great info on the scales, I never knew vulcantie was used for scales...I learn something new everyday here...thanks very much!

Attachment 111411Attachment 111418Was a good day at the mailbox yesterday...here is the result of some basic clean-up and sanding...Its not spotless but it is more than satisfactory for my tastes...
