This Hess finally got here today. Feels like it took a nice after touching it up on a Zulu grey. Tomorrows shave will tell.

Great looking razor! the King of stainless Enjoy!
Thanks Martin. I don't know if it is the King of stainless but it does shave as well as my other stainless blades and that is not bad company to be in at all.

Those are really the best vintage stainless I have come across. You should enjoy it!
Sorry, I have an aversion to calling something "the best" as that is so subjective a descriptor. I don't have a lot of experience to really make that kind of judgement. I just prefer to say something is very good and in this case at least as good as others I have used in stainless blades. It is right in there giving excellent shaves and I do enjoy using it.

Very nice I have one I just picked up last year, they are nice, enjoy!

No need to be sorry, Bob! Just complementing your purchase and stating my opinion, not necessarily fact! I have run a pretty good gamut of older stainless razors. Friodurs, FWE, Boker, and C-Mon.
I feel it one of the best as the Hess 44 seems a better grind to me and hones up very easily. While not a particular stainless fan, the Hess seemed to be the best. I actually have a 42 which is much different than most 42's as it is a bit over 5/8 and a downright a little wedge. Mows down the heaviest beard smoothly. My exclusive travel razor! The others are good too! Not too many "bad" vintage razors out there. I am sure I am not alone! :D

Now that Hess 42 wedge is interesting.

I have had a C-Mon, a Hess, and Friodurs. Its hard to say that one is "better" than the others. I love the Friodur 50 1/2 over most of the others, cant stand the Friodur 451 (even though I have 3 of them)
I had a harder time honing up the C-Mon than any of the others, but they all shaved great.
Funny, I have a Friodur 451 and like it as well as the rest of my stainless models. That is why I am really hesitant to say something is the best because it really is a YMMV type thing.
