Default Finally I've got my first early razor

    Hi
This is only my second post on SRP but i'm more than willing to share my recent findings with you guys.

The first one is an old english razor that I've got in the mail yesterday. It's in pretty bad condition but it's fine with me since I really like those early stub tailed oldsters. My guess is that it's a C.Milnes razor because of the horseshoe stamp and the "M" letter that follows it, no trace for any other letters though. One side of the scales is quite bent, in what used to be, the metal inlay that is now all crumbled and falling apart
I don't know how to try and restore it and I'm not even sure if I should, what do you think?

The next one is also an oldie in even worse condition with broken scales and a small bent on the edge, but its just set there, and the price was funny ($8) so I had to grab it. As for the maker, there is no sign for any stamp, nothing! and the blade is already off, any suggestions what can I do with it?
Now, while i'm handing the money to the vendor I noticed this gorgeous shaving mug that I just had to add to the buying!

That ivory handled one is quite a find, too bad there's a chip out of it. A lot of work and craftsmanship into the carving and piqueing of the scales.

I have come to like the old ones more and more, if they could only talk....

It would probably go like grandpa simpson

You see, back in those days, rich men would ride around in Zeppelins, dropping coins on people, and one day I seen J.D. Rockefeller flying by. So I run of the house with a big washtub and... hey! Where are you going? Anyway, about my washtub. I'd just used it that morning to wash my turkey, which in those days was known as... ...a walking-bird. We'd always have walking-bird on Thanksgiving, with all the trimmings: cranberries, injun eyes, yams stuffed with gunpowder. Then we'd all watch football, which in those days was called baseball...

I couldn't read it in any other way than Abe Simpson's voice narrating the text

I absolutely love that disturbing scuttle. Hell yes.

The really old razors are cool, aren't they?
One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

Can someone please try and date the Smith razor? my guess is pre 1800 from the shape of the blade

Most likely it's Thomas Smith of Sheffield, razor maker. He worked from Scotland Street and his mark was a Maltese cross above 'SMITH'.

His last directory entry is from 1797, and it looks like he died shortly after. There is a listing for what looks like continued business as Thomas Smith & Son from 1811, but I'd bet your razor is late 1700's.
