Nev-a-hone razor, anybody have any ideas?

Got this guy on ebay cheap. I liked the smile and the vintage ad copy etch on it.

It feels like a good blade, and actually has just under a millimeter of hone wear, so should be good, despite the rust. There is some nasty rust in a few places though.

Apparently somebody re pinned it at some point and put the thrust bearing washers on the outside for some reason. Easy fix though, just an amusing thing about the razor.

I'm pretty curious as to who might have made the blade for these guys. I've never heard of the nev-a-hone strop company before.

I had a neva hone a while back. Suprized at how nice it shaved. Even the off brands made some quality stuff back when.

Yeah, well I had a "Sears Self-Hone" and I let that puppy sit in the drawer for a few days alone and it never did hone itself :rofl2:

I bet ya still gotta hone that thing :p

Deceptive advertising if ya ask my opinion :D

Maybe I'll just be super stubborn and not hone it anyway. Every time I use it, it'll just pull the hairs out of my face instead.

No Sheffield stamp, but the point does really ring when you pick it with a thumbnail.

I'll be interested to get it restored and honed.

'Had one that I bought to feed my honing appetite. It was an entirely respectable shaver - much better than I would have any right to expect. 'Approaching Genco/Shumate feel.

Perhaps it was made by Genco or Shumate!

You know, the blade and tang shape is remarkably similar to my Shumate tungsten. I'll have to compare them side by side, just to see.


It does have a nice little smile.

I don't know nuthin' but for some reason the first thing I thought was Torry. I got a kick out of the cymbals made into washers. Must of been owned by a drummer at one time. I bet it turns out to be a great shaver all kidding aside. Such a deal. I just bought a lot of 6 and a couple of others at around that price. Hope I get as lucky.

Ahhhh the secret is in the 4/8k strop. You have to read the fine print..

I sandblasted all the rust off it yesterday. I'll start sanding it this weekend. It looks like it'll be a winner. I love the smile it's got.

So I finally got around to finishing this guy up. Got it sanded nicely and polished all bright and shiny and new looking, and re pinned.

I had it honed up to 8k and felt really good about it after shaving, so today I took it to the purple welsh slate and then pasted strops up to .01 cbn. And shaved two days growth just now.

I gotta say, I'm really impressed with it. Surprisingly smooth shave and really a nice blade.

I'll see if I can get some pics up tomorrow.
